Kitty Kanteen Feral Cat and Kitten Rescue

Today I bring you the story of one woman's lifelong efforts to help feral cats and kittens. Her name is Charmaine Davey and she has named her rescue "Kitty Kanteen Feral Cat and Kitten Rescue". She has been working with feral cats for 47 years. She has worked with a feral cat colony in her own neighborhood in New Haven, MI for the past 6 years. Charmaine and a few of her neighbors have joined together to make these feral cats' lives better. Sadly, most of her neighbors are not too fond of the feral cats that reside in the neighborhood.

"Boomer" is the spokeskitty for Kitty Kanteen Feral Cat and Kitten Rescue. He was dying from an infection. The rescue  took him in under their wing and provided him with vet care and medication to help him get better.

Charmaine's passion for helping feral cats started when she was a young child. She noticed that unwanted cats would get thrown out. She would always sneak them food and give them affection. Eventually, several of them ended up in her own home as loving pets. This passion followed her into her adult years and she has been at it ever since. "I can't imagine not helping them...they do not have a voice, we as their guardians must share the responsibility for their care and well being...not throw them away," Charmaine says. This is why she started the Kitty Kanteen Feral Cat and Kitten Rescue.

The Kitty Kanteen and Feral Cat and Kitten Rescue does a lot for the feral cat colony in their community. The colony is made up of about 12-15 feral cats currently, but is always changing. They spend a lot of their time trying to socialize the cats and earn their trust so that they may one day be able to go to loving homes and live the cushy indoor life. Charmaine has already placed dozens of feral cats in homes and as barn cats for local farmers. The Kitty Kanteen Feral Cat and Kitten Rescue provide the kitties with food, special treats, and veterinary care. They also medicate the feral cats when necessary and educate their neighbors about feral cats.

Here are 5 members of the colony. Aren't they all gorgeous?

The Kitty Kanteen Feral Cat and Kitten Rescue has its own Facebook page that you can visit and like here. Stop by and show your support for the wonderful things they do! If you live in the area, maybe you'd be interested in adopting a cat or kitten who needs a warm home this winter season.

Meet Lola! Lola is looking for a home and is currently being fostered in Southeast Michigan! Can you help her?
