Castle In The Mist | Dog Book Review

Well, it's been awhile now since I've had this book. It's called "Castle In The Mist" by Robert McCarty. I was lucky enough to win a copy of it from our friends at Dakota's Den - thanks guys! I was happy to win a copy because I thought Lily could use some more good chapter books to read and she loves animals. The book is long for her and she's slowly working on it. So far, she claims to be enjoying it.

I read the book and really enjoyed it! It's the sequel to another book called "Planet of the Dogs" and even though I hadn't read the first volume it was still easy to follow. It's a fun fantasy chapter book with a lot of great lessons to be learned. Most of these lessons come from dogs, of course.

Here's a book description of Castle In The Mist taken from Amazon.com -
"After a year of peace Bik, the warrior-chief of Stone City, is preparing for war because his children have been kidnapped by Prince Ukko the leader of the Black Hawk tribes. The children are held prisoner in the Castle In The Mist. This is the story of how the dogs came down from their planet, to the land of the Forest People, to free the children and prevent war."
My favorite parts of the book had to do with how the dogs help the people of Earth. They helped farmers, lonely people, sad people, brought happiness to children, and more. They even helped save some kidnapped children from an evil Prince.

The dogs lead the evil Prince on a hunt to capture them in an effort to save the kidnapped children. This part of the story is very exciting and has great suspense. It's fun to read about the dog's strategies in outsmarting the Prince's soldiers. As I'm sure you're all aware, dogs are very clever creatures and this book showcases their intelligence perfectly!

I'd recommend Castle In The Mist for children as well as adults. Lily is 8 years old and reads great, but I notice that she has a hard time finishing chapter books. I think she gets distracted and wants to start a new book most of the time. If you have an older child or teenager that loves dogs and fantasy stories, then you should get this book for them. Plus, it's summertime and reading is still important even when the kids aren't in school. I know I'm always asking Lily to read a few minutes each day at least.

You can visit the Planet of the Dogs website to learn more about the book series here. Castle In The Mist is also available for purchase on Amazon.com - click here to purchase the book.

  7. That sounds like a very entertaining book, and good for Lily reading it! Since dogs help the people of Earth EVERY day, maybe it's sort of a true story? :)
