Cat Naps In the Sun

Yesterday evening, I was able to get some nice pictures of Honey Delite. She found a nice perch on top of an old car underneath the old horse stable area and was taking a cat nap. I used my real camera for these photos. I've been trying to use the real camera more often than my phone because the pictures really do turn out nice.

I've also decided I should probably brush up on my photography a bit. I'd love a new camera that's not too expensive but really have no idea what to get. Feel free to shoot any suggestions my way!

Oh, it's you human. What do you want of me now?
*Yawn* You bore me with this strange flashy box...
Are you done yet?
This is what you interrupted my important cat nap for?
I'm going back to sleep...

Anyways, Honey Delite has some real kitty modeling potential in my opinion. What do you think?

  3. these photos are just great! You are right about using a "real" camera which is something I need to do more of too. The problem is, my "real" camera has to be charged and uploading the photos annoys the hell out of me! lol. These are just great though!

    1. I feel ya Caren... sometimes I wouldn't use my real camera because it wasn't charged and I was being lazy. Uploading the photos takes a little extra time, but not much I guess...

  7. I like this photo. I go back and forth on the camera issue all the time. Every time I think I want a real camera, I remember that I probably won't carry it or use it. The phone fits so nicely into my jeans' pocket and is so easy to use! And other people's dogs (I do quite a bit of photographing other people's dogs) are used to having a phone in their face while their owners take photos. I'd seriously love another Canon, but I'm afraid it would be a waste of money. :(

    1. See, I think the exact same way! Phones are great for spur of the moment pictures. If I have to do a product review or know I need certain photos for a post, then I will try to use my real camera. Of course, I barely have my phone on me half of the time anyways lol.

  8. Such nice pictures of Honey Delite!

With regard to your camera, it really depends upon what you want/need (and how much you want to spend). I've had a Canon Powershot SI-3 for years, and I'm still pretty happy with it. Not too much shutter lag, it's got a nice amount of optical zoom, does okay in lower light situations, and can use telephoto and wide angle lenses and filters (with an adpater). Since there have been newer models in this line, you may be able to get an S-3 or even an S-5 at a decent price. Good luck!

    1. I am a total noob with this stuff... when you say shutter-lag, I am guessing you mean the amount of time it takes for the camera to actually take the pic? I really need a camera that takes pics faster. Especially for Nibblet and sometimes Shiner.

    2. Regarding shutter lag: Yes, you guessed correctly! :)

  9. Those are really great pictures of Honey Delite. I do like using a camera instead of my phone. I don't have a very good phone so don't have much of a choice. Take care.

  10. Great photos, Miss Ann. I should give you Ma's big camera...she never really figured out how to use it so the photos all come out blurry. BOL

  11. I used to be all "I don't want to carry this around" with my camera. And I used Gloman as a crutch, because his arms are actually cameras. (haha!) And then he gave me a *real* camera as a gift last fall. Now I'm hooked. And since most of the photos I take are of Katie and Waffles, I just always make sure it's ready and nearby at home so I can catch their antics.

As for advice...there's SO much out there. I have the advantage of living with a pro who is constantly researching and reading up on the latest, greatest photo equipment at all price points. He would just have one word for you. Nikon. The user interface is very intuitive and easy to learn. In many regards they are leaps and bounds ahead of the competition in terms of technology. There are tons of models...it all comes down to your price range and what you are comfortable with. If you have a National Camera Exchange in your area, they are great for explaining your options, a great selection, even training. You are always welcome to email me if you have specific questions. : )

    1. Oooo thank you! I am liking my camera the more I have been trying to take good pictures with it the last few days. It's a Sony cyber-shot. If I ever buy a new one, I will definitely consider a Nikon! Since I have to go outside to take pictures of Honey Delite, I am usually in a picture taking mindset anyways. Now if only I could learn how to take good pictures of a rat... Thank you very much for the advice! :)

  12. Such a pretty kitty!

I had (well, still have) a Canon PowerShot - it's a small digital. To me, the lag time was horrible. I have no decent pics of our last dog as a puppy cuz she was always on the move. I had to get a better camera or get used to having nothing but blurry photos of her. So I got a Nikon DX cuz my bro had the same camera and said good things about it. I got it used off ebay and have been very happy with it. It's big and heavy though, so I don't always have it with me, obviously. But I take most of my blog photos with it (unless we are out on a walk and then I use the hub's phone) and lug it along on vacations and whatnot. I never read the instructions for how to use it - just started messing with it. I'm sure there's tons more I could be doing with it. My next thing is to figure out if I can get a serious zoom lens for it. Need to look into that!

    1. Thanks Jackie! I'll have to look that one up. Sounds like I take most of my pictures the same way as you do. I'm not a big directions reader lol. I'd probably end up doing the same thing as you.

  16. She's beautiful we love cats! Good luck with the picture taking, mom is trying to learn how to use our Nikkon SLR but so far she just shoots it with automatic, no manual. Not recommended for the inexperienced. Love Dolly

    1. Thanks Rachel. That sounds similar to the camera I have right now. The only thing I don't like about my current camera is that I wish it were faster at taking pictures. Especially with Nibblet.
