Ferrets As Pets | From the Friendly Ferret

So, I recently talked a little bit about my past pet ferret - Francis. I don't think I mentioned it, but I also had another ferret, Ferris, just after Francis. Ferrets make wonderful little pets and certainly know how to put a smile on a person's face. I always enjoyed watching mine slink around and jump across the floor. If you've ever considered keeping a ferret as a pet, this post includes a few things you should consider. The following is a guest post from our new friends at the Friendly Ferret

Ferrets love exploring.

This is a guest post by Anja from Friendly Ferret.

As one of the most interesting and energetic pets, ferrets have conquered the entire world. The moment you see them, you will know why they have become so popular and wanted as pets. They are little energetic furballs who will turn your whole life upside down and make it as funny as it can be.

Even though they are one of the most adorable creatures on the planet, before buying one you must gather all the information you can about them. They are sensitive when it comes to some illnesses and extreme outdoor conditions. Just because of that, they seem like perfect apartment animals. You don't have to walk them and they are small animals, but that doesn't mean you can leave them in the cage all day. Ferrets need their time and place to play, jump and run around. That's why most ferret owners let their ferret have the entire apartment or house to play in. But before doing so you must protect your ferret from accidents, which can happen more than you think, unfortunately.

Ferrets adore hiding and exploring and due to their flexible bodies they can enter almost every hole in your apartment. Sometimes they can't get out when they do that. So to prevent such accidents, the best thing to do is ferret-proof your home. Close any holes, close the space behind your closet, put some protection on your toilet seat and don't let your ferret near the window.

Yes, ferrets do need extra care and that is because of their body. One of a ferret's biggest enemies is the heat. Ferrets don't sweat and they can easily have a heat stroke if it becomes too hot around them. That is the main reason why you mustn't walk your ferret outside during summer. If it is hot for you, just imagine how they feel under that furry coat! During summer, leave your ferret in the air conditioning or fan. Place a couple of frozen bottles in the cage and in the room to make your ferret comfortable and cool.

    1. Yes - Shiner was great friends with them when they were around! I think that is the reason why she gets along with the rat so well.

  12. Our human aunt in Killeen had a ferret that kept stealing her car keys (MOL). Our mommy also CHEATED on us with Snotface Critter (a deaf ferret who was at BlogPaws). A LOT. *sniff* There are INCRIMINATING Photos, too! (Just meowing)
