Why Dogs Make Our Lives Better | National Dog Day

Did you know that today is National Dog Day? National Dog Day is celebrated every year on August 26th to recognize and show appreciation for the canine companions in our lives. The day was founded in 2004 and helps bring public awareness of all the important jobs dogs have. In turn, maybe more people will be driven to adopt or foster dogs, or donate to their local dog rescue. Maybe more people will stand up against abuse in dogs.

There are so many reasons to celebrate life with dogs. I don't think I could list them all but I have listed a few reasons why dogs make our lives better beow.

Reasons Why Dogs Make Our Lives Better

  • Family dogs provide us with friendship, love, and laughter
  • Therapy dogs help heal people who have disabilities and people that are sick.
  • Police, bomb and drug sniffing dogs provide us with protection.
  • Service dogs lend their senses to guide and help people who need extra help.
  • Some dogs rescue people in life or death situations.

So on this special day, make sure you give your canine companion some extra special love! Or go out and adopt a dog - there are plenty out there who need loving forever homes. If you're not ready to commit to keeping a dog as a pet right now, try volunteering at your local animal shelter or making a donation. There are so many ways to help out dogs in need!

In what ways does YOUR dog make your life better? How do you plan to celebrate National Dog Day?

  8. Titan has made me a better person and an advocate of the "breed". He has also blessed me with unconditional love and loyalty and I'll be forever grateful. In appreciation of the day, Titan gets to go for a ride tonight and go see his girlfriend for a mani and pedi. Hope he's in a better mood than last time. ;)

  11. Goodness, how did we not know it was NDD! Of course... Rita thinks every day is NDD around here! We are celebrating our usual Monday way - a long walk with Rita this morning, and then I'm off to my usual weekly shelter volunteer session playing with/walking the dogs that are up for adoption.

Rita makes our lives better by making us laugh and smile every day, giving us unconditional love, and making me get up off my butt and go for a walk!

  15. Why dogs don't make our lives better. Their owners tend to be irresponsible and not get them registered, let them run off their leashes and not pick up their poos. The dog owners around here are the worst.

  16. Been saying this all day - EVERY DAY is like National Dog Day around here. Our guys are kind spoiled. But they are good dogs and love us to death, so I feel ok about spoiling them.
