The Story of Grace | A Pit Bull Left for Dead

Don't let the title of this post get you down. I promise that it has a happy ending! This story showed up in my personal Facebook feed just a few weeks ago, and I've been meaning to share it here ever since.

It's the story of a pit bull named Grace, rescued by a girl named Kate. Kate runs her own dog rescue - Kate to the Rescue! The purpose of her rescue is to help dogs who live on the street in San Antonio. I found some interesting facts on Kate's Rescue website. San Antonio, Texas has the largest population of stray dogs in the continental US. Over 100,000 in fact. I had no idea myself.

Kate came across Grace the Pit Bull by accident. She was patrolling a neighborhood for stray dogs when a local neighbor informed her that there was a dog next door about to die. Apparently, the neighbor had contacted the city a few weeks ago but they never came.

In the backyard, Kate found Grace who probably had not had a nice meal in about 6 weeks according to a veterinarian. Grace's owner had died several weeks prior to her rescue and she was left tied up in the backyard, left for dead. Despite all of this, Grace was extremely happy to be saved and super sweet. Kate filmed the rescue with her phone.

The story was featured on one of Austin's local TV stations. The veterinarian in the video is Dr. Schroeder, who I used to work very closely with. She is one of my favorite veterinarians. If the video below doesn't work, click here to watch it

You can read the full story over at Kate's blog here. Also, Grace now has her own Facebook page and I'm sure she'd love it if you stopped by to give her a like and show your support!

And of course, you can support the efforts of Kate's Rescue by donation via snail-mail, PayPal, or their Amazon wishlist by clicking here.

    1. I hope that maybe a neighbor had the heart to give her something every now and then... but who knows what she went through.

  13. What a sweetie! I agree with Jan that the neighbors should have done a lot more to help poor Grace, but at least she is now getting the proper care. Hope she makes a full recovery and finds a new loving, forever home!

    1. She was actually following their dog down the street. The dog ran into their yard and that's how she found out about Grace. So if they're letting their dog run around like that, they probably aren't too pet savvy unfortunately =/
