Including Your Pets in Your Family Scrapbook

While looking for a certain photo over the weekend, I came across some of my old scrapbooks. I used to be a scrapbooker when I was younger. It's really a lot of fun. Everything is so digital these days, that I hardly have any hard copies of photos anymore.

While looking at my old scrapbooks, I found a lot of pages that were dedicated to my pets. One scrapbook was an English project my senior year of high school. We had to submit 5 pages each grading period with a photo and a paragraph of text. I had a page for Shiner, Kitty Kitty Meow Meow, and Francis Ferret.

Shiner and Francis playing.

It was funny to read what I had to say about all of them back when I was 18 years old. What I was really thinking in my head was why on Earth did I think I could manage 3 pets while I was still in high school!? But, that's a whole different story I suppose. We live and we learn.

I was so excited about getting to keep Francis Ferret, there was just no way I could say no to having her as a pet. In the end, my father of all people bonded with her and she kind of became his pet. I always thought it was pretty weird because I just could never picture him even liking a pet like a ferret. Even today.

Kitty Kitty Meow Meow's page was pretty funny for me to read over. Looks as though there was some debate as to what we were going to name her. And to think we ended up with the oh-so original name of "Kitty Kitty Meow Meow"! Kitty Kitty Meow Meow just showed up one day, so throughout her life she kind of just came and went as she pleased. Although, she did go to live with my brother in college for several years before returning back with me.

And of course, Shiner was included in this scrapbook complete with adorable puppy photos! Squee!

Besides my high school scrapbook project, I made another scrapbook for my first daughter, Lily. I created a page for each of her first holidays that she celebrated and some other first moments. I smiled when I turned to this page in Lily's scrapbook.

I even made a page for Shiner and Lily together. I just love looking at these old photos.

I'm not sure if scrapbooking is "dead" and if it is, I think it needs to make a comeback. All the moments remembered when looking through the pages after years. It's just fun. To make them and remember them.

I know many pet parents don't have human children, so I just have to ask - have you ever made a scrapbook for your furry children? And if you do have human children, do you include your pets in your family scrapbook? Thanks for stopping by and reminiscing with me today!

  1. I've got some adorable photos of Rocco and Alexii together. Rocco was a grown-up dog when Alexii was born, and we didn't know how he would adjust to a newborn in the house. We found out reaaaal quick. Rocco adopted Alexii as his own, and fussed over his care to the point where we started calling him "Nanny Dog." If Alexii's diaper was wet/dirty, he'd find one of us and lure us into the room to change it. If Alexii started crying he went NUTS. If we propped Alexii up on the couch, he would snuggle up next to Alexii.

We had to draw the line at his offerings of food. ;-) Got some great pictures of them snuggled together though.

  3. Sweet memories Ann and we think it should make a come back too but with it being a digital age I am not sure it would which is such a pity. May be you can get them scanned?
    Have a tremendous Thursday.

    1. I did scan these ones in. I think the best part of the scrapbooking is actually making the pages. If you're a crafty person anyways.

  5. What adorable pages! I used to scrapbook too but you're right, with everything digital it's just harder to print out for some reason. I do try to make a book for every occasion though I've cut corners and order online :-)

    1. Ah well those online books are very easy! I went to Walmart to develop some photos for a project and those damn machines took FOREVER! No wonder they are harder to print out LOL.

  17. I've never done any scrapbooking. However, many years ago my mom had a dog baby book for her doxie. I've got it now and it is so much fun to read. Full of little stories and lots of photos. Love yours, especially that last one with your daughter. So, so sweet!

  19. Oh I really need to get into scrapbooking - especially now that I have so many of the supplies on hand for some of the other projects I've been working on (I adore Mod Podge!) and a photo printer. Looking back... love the nostalgia. Love the style of your pages! And puppy Shiner makes me squeal.

    1. I used to have a photo printer back when I was doing this. Maybe that's one of the reasons why it was easier now that I think about it.

  21. TW has a separate photo album for all her cats. The humans in her family don’t let themselves be photographed so there are tons of cat photos. Our Mac screensaver is set at “Scrapbook.” Some of the pages look so cool. Shiner was an adorable puppy!

  22. These are adorable!!! What a fun idea. I don't have anything like this for Katie or Waffles...but I know I've got piles of photos to work with so I should definitely get busy! Not only is it fun putting creative things like this together, I love that it gives us a chance to touch our memories.

  23. Love your scrapbooks! And what memories you brought back for us about scrapbooking! Before I got married I was living in L.A. and my roommate introduced me to "scrapbooking stores" and she got me hooked on the paper, stickers, and I even had the rolling bag. I loved the process of creating the pages and hanging out with friends. Then I became a photographer, so ironically I have a ton more photos, but you have me thinking I want to pull out my old scrapbooking supplies out of storage. Great post!

  24. It is so great to have those memories to look back at! I kept scrapbooks when I was in high school too, and after that it was just photo albums. I still love to pull them out and look at them. With everything going digital, I stopped doing that. I did buy some scrapbooking supplies when it was really popular, but never did get around to putting everything together. Who knows, maybe some day I still will!
