Take the #PawNatural Challenge | Help Your Pet Live a Healthy and Green Life

Living a greener and healthier lifestyle isn't always easy. After all, we're surrounded by junk food on our grocery store shelves everyday. Not to mention the pesticides and/or chemicals that are found is some of the products many of us might use on a regular basis.

I am gradually trying going green myself, but I've found that these things do take time. So I'm taking it one small step at a time. This month, I'm trying a few new natural pet products from Only Natural Pet with my dog. If I'm going green, I think it's only fair that my furry family member gets to go green too. After all, Only Natural Pet was founded on the belief that a natural lifestyle contributes to longer and healthier lives for our pets.

I've also got a few ideas for you on simple ways to go green and help your pet live a healthy and green life. If you're up for the challenge, here are some recommendations.

Natural Flea Repellents

I used to work in a veterinary hospital. We mostly recommended using products that contain chemicals and pesticides in them. In recent years, I had noticed more and more pet owners talking about going green and using a more natural flea repellent. Truthfully, I never was able to find a good natural flea repellent or natural flea remedies.

Applying Shiner's natural flea repellent.

I wanted to try a natural flea repellent that I didn't need to apply everyday. So this month, I'm using Only Natural Pet Herbal Defense Squeeze-On Dog Flea Control. So far so good, but I'll have a full review for everyone next month. Natural doesn't always mean "safe", so I am so glad that I can trust the formulation on this product. All of Only Natural Pet's products are formulated by a holistic veterinarian to be biologically appropriate for cats and/or dogs.

One step you can take for this challenge is to try and find a natural flea repellent that works well for you and your dog or cat. It's the season for fleas anyways, so going green for flea control can benefit both of you!

Natural Dog Treats

Giving your dog natural dog treats is one of the easiest ways you can transition to a healthy and green life. As I mentioned above, junk food is everywhere in the grocery store. Well, the same can be said for the dog treats on the shelves. Junk food might be OK every now and then, but I've found that Shiner really loves the more natural dog treats better anyways.

Jumping up for a natural dog treat!

She had a taste of her very first Bully Stick from Only Natural Pet over the weekend and was in love! Only Natural Pet uses human quality ingredients and are made with human quality standards.

Natural Pet Food

This is something I struggle with. I am on a strict budget with Shiner's diet and I haven't found that perfect natural dog food that fits into my budget yet. I also am in no position to feed her a home-cooked diet or a raw diet right now. As much as I'd love to give this a try some day, I am just too worried that it won't be nutritionally perfect for my dog.

That's why I'm always keeping my eyes open for a natural dog food that I don't have to cook or prepare myself. I've found quite a few natural pet food choices from Only Natural Pet and am really excited to see how they work out for my own dog.

You can even try adding natural veggies like carrots, sweet potato, or green beans to your dog's diet. Try some things out and see what they like.

My #PawNatural Pledge

This month, I'm going green with my dog and I invite you to do the same with your dog or cat. I'm using a natural flea repellent, feeding natural dog treats, and natural dog food. Keep an eye out for a full review of some of the products mentioned above in a few weeks.

If you're interested in trying some natural pet products with your dog or cat, take a look at Only Natural Pet's long list of pet supplies on Pet360. 1. Natural sadly is word so over used over here. You really have to read the small print. Have a tremendous Thursday.

  3. Thank you for your tips! I have always wanted to find more ways to go green, I always seem unsuccessful though. I do not try hard enough in all honesty. Your right, these things take time and small steps is the way to go.

    1. Making changes in your life here and there is a great way to start. You don't have to make a sudden change and do it all at once!

    1. Really? I've heard some great things about diatomaceous earth and we might need to give that a try sometime. The fleas do like it out here, but our yard is a giant field so it's not easy.

  5. I have been trying to go more natural myself, and as you said it takes time, and sometimes trial and error to find what works or fits into your lifestyle. I'm also trying that spot on treatment and some other things for fleas/ticks.
I would love to cook for my dogs or go raw, but it's just too much for me. So I try to feed high quality kibble. I love your idea of adding some veggies to their meals though....I give them veggies as snacks sometimes but I think adding it to their meals would be even better.

    1. I know exactly how you feel Jan. I think it's too much for me too. I have enough trouble planning out family dinners for my family. Hope the flea/tick thing works out well for you, just read about your tick stuff yesterday.

  8. I used to feed my babies natural food (kibbles) before Carmine got sick with the FLUTD. Now they all have to eat his prescription kibbles. However, I am interested in looking for natural canned food for Lita and Jewel for their dinner (Carmine eats special diet food for his wet meals, too). I'll give that product list a looksie. :)

    1. They don't make any canned foods yet, but they have a lot of freeze dried raw or air dried raw options.

  9. Those are some great ideas and very helpful. Cocco eats lots of natural food thankfully, pigs aren't picky ;-)

  10. Nibblet ate probably a lot like Cocco does. She could be picky sometimes though.

  11. I didn’t get this campaign cos I’m too picky. I won’t eat most treats and foods and don’t play with many cat toys. Hope that flea stuff works. My Aunt Karen works for Ark Naturals and the peeps used to use their natural stuff on Nicky.

    1. I wish I had a cat to use some of these things on. Well, I guess I could always get that new barn cat but he seems to be stuck underneath the toolbox and doesn't want to come out.

  12. We trued tried the natural flea repellent and a couple different dog treats. I'm very impressed and I'm thankful that we now have this option. The brand that I previously purchased for natural flea and tick treatment is no longer making the product.

  14. Glad you found some natural products to try. :) We have to deal with ticks. We would not treat at all, except for those darn things.
