One Rescue Cat's Mission to Help Paw It Forward

Blogging and social media is a powerful tool when it comes to helping pets find good homes, gathering donations for charitable causes, and spreading the word about important projects to help educate the public about pets and their care.

Today, I'm glad to share with you an exclusive interview with Savannah the rescue cat from the blog "Savannah's Paw Tracks". She's been blogging for quite a while now and while her blog's objective has always been to support rescue pets and have a little bit of fun here and there, there's rumor that there's going to be some big changes at Savannah's Paw Tracks come October 1st, 2014.

I was able to talk with Miss Savannah a little bit about these big changes, and what we can expect next month during my interview with her.

Hi Savannah - thanks so much for allowing me to interview you here at Pawsitively Pets. To start off with, can you tell us a little bit about why you started your blog, Savannah's Paw Tracks, in the first place?

Savannah: Oh, this is a bit embarrassing because originally… I was completely focused on sharing everything about my very own rescue… and my recovery from what appears to be kittenhood trauma.  *coughs…clears throat*

It may be that I also endured a lot of trauma up until I was 5 years old and found in the night drop box at the local public kill shelter.

I am sorry, but I don’t remember much before that night.

You asked about why I created my blog, and that little bit of my history really tells it all. I first started to write just to share my personal recovery from trauma.  I arrived in my forever home terrified of most humans, especially men…and I did not really know how to ‘be’ a cat.

Wow, that does sound traumatizing... I commend you for being such a brave ladycat. It must be hard to talk about your past experiences. I hear there are some big changes planned for your blog, but everything won't be revealed until October 1st. What should we expect on the big day?

Savannah: Now this is really an exciting, but still somewhat secret, big change on my blog.  I am so please you asked!

I have been searching for a while for a really clear mission for my blog and for my writing.  I have found my REAL SELF and what I want to write about.

My decision is to launch my newly clarified mission with what I hope others will see as a bold new brand which fits my mission.  I guess I will know if I am successful based on how my followers experience my October 1st event.

Well, it certainly does sound very exciting and I can't wait until the big day! Something you already feature on your blog right now are "Paw It Forward" Projects. Can you explain to us what these are exactly?

Savannah: I am so relieved you asked me to talk about what this means to me.

Paw It Forward Projects are the challenges I, personally, take on to help other adult companion animals find their voice…to ask for help.  Their request can be for help to locate their permanent home…or perhaps to cause their community to provide TNR for cats and low cost spay/neuter for companion animals to reduce the numbers of unwanted companion animals who end up in public kill shelter.

It may mean I become the voice for animal rescue organizations in need of funds raised for the medical care of special need rescues.

I don’t believe that Paw It Forward Projects have any limit…does that make sense??

It definitely makes sense, Savannah! As a rescue cat yourself, why do you think it's so impawtant to help other rescue animals and share their stories?

Savannah: If we do not help them…who will???  Social media Anipals always make a difference.  I know everyone hears me say this all the time…but SHARING SAVES LIVES.  I know this to be true.  Only recently…a wonderful husky dog found his permanent home due specifically because a Facebook husky pal shared his story on her husky page.  That woofie is now safe and in a loving home for the rest of his days…

Seriously, it doesn’t get any better than that…right?

Agreed! The power of social media is strong. Thank you so much for sharing your story with us and letting us have a sneak peek into your upcoming blog changes.

Part of the reason I wanted to share this interview with Miss Savannah today was to help her plans for her blog's new mission to be a success. I mean, I'm sure it would be successful without this interview but what if there are people out there reading this right now who have never heard of Savannah's Paw Tracks before?

That, my friends, is the power of social media. My reach and reader audience may be very different than that of Savannah's current readership. That is why I would like to encourage all of you who are not currently following Savannah to do so. Let's help her make her reach even stronger and more powerful so her mission to help pets in need can be even more successful than it is now.

You can follow Savannah at her blog or Facebook. And don't forget to save the date - October 1st - to check out what's going on.
