A Tiny Thanksgiving Feast

Do you enjoy Thanksgiving Day with your pets? Ever since I was a child, I can remember including our pets in our Thanksgiving holiday plans. Even to this day, my family brings their dogs to Thanksgiving dinner.

I like to prepare a special Thanksgiving holiday meal for my pets, including the rats. This will be Gus and Jack's first Thanksgiving with me, but rest assured they are certain to enjoy it! To prepare for the upcoming holiday, we created a cute little movie entitled "A Tiny Thanksgiving Feast".

What's on the menu? Peas, carrots, turkey, popcorn, shredded cheese, and a small dollop of whipped cream.

As you can see, Jack and Gus both enjoyed eating their dessert first. After the whipped cream was licked clean from their plate, Gus went for some green peas (a favorite of rats) and Jack chose to nom on some popcorn.

After their Thanksgiving feast, a rat has to look his best and make sure there are no crumbs left in his whiskers so a bit of grooming was in order.

We hope all of our friends enjoy a special tasty treat on Thursday. If you have any special plans to celebrate Thanksgiving with your pets, tell us about it in the comments!

  1. OMR Miss Ann!!!! I LOVE this....Jack and Gus had their own festive meal! They are SO cute when they eat...especially when eating green peas. Reminds me of how Corky, our parrot, loves grapes but won't eat the skins either. BOL I have got to share this video. Tell the boys I said Happy Thanksgiving.

    1. Yea they don't like eating the shells of just about anything. I have never fed them grapes to err on the side of caution (because they are toxic for some dogs) but I don't actually know if they are toxic to rats as well. They had a good time for this though - thanks!

    2. I think grapes are fine for rats.

I give them to my rats every now and then and know other rat owners who feed them too. My rats really like them.

  5. soooo adorable!! What a great and thoughtful Momma you are!!!! I am ashamed to say I don't make a special meal for the boys. Turkey is bad for male cats, and Dakota can't come to the Thanksgiving festivities (we don't have it here), too many people there!

    1. Well, I don't bring Shiner along either since she doesn't like strangers. But there is always a bunch of shelties around! The newest shelties don't seem to like strangers very much either lol...

  7. I actually take into consideration what my pets like when I buy stuff for Thanksgiving. Thankfully, the rats pretty much like everything, but I have to make sure that my gluten sensitive dog has some treats, too.

My homemade cranberry sauce was a hit last year with humans and rat-kind a like. So, that's on the menu. Since my rats love SAUCE, we must have gravy for the turkey, stuffing, etc.

As for the giblets.... The dog gets the organ meats. The rats get the neck which of course gets turned into their science project as they carefully remove all of the meat from the turkey vertebrae.

  8. I also really enjoyed watching the boys eat their peas. I wonder if I would have found the more fun when I was a kid if I had peeled them first.

  9. Such a wonderful video! This is SO MUCH FUN! I love how the whipped cream was eaten up first. Nice job editing the video, too. It was cool to see the plate from above with all of the food labelled. Including popcorn was a genius idea. Also loved the grooming at the end. Hooray for Gus and Jack and glad they got their own Thanksgiving feast!

  10. Love this! We like to take Coco to the woods with us when we celebrate with our family who live out there. This gives her new things to smell and space to run around and explore off-leash.
