About the Blogger - 11 Questions Answered

Over a month ago, I received the Liebster Award from Camille of the Good Pet Parent blog. It's taken me a while to get to answering her questions, but here I am! Many months ago, I first "met" Camille by email. She introduced herself as a former Veterinary Technician that had recently started a pet blog, much like myself.

Not long ago, I featured her cat, Jasper, as a Pawsome Pet of the Week. If you don't remember him, he was the handsome and sweet orange and white tabby mancat. You can read Jasper's interview here.

Since "meeting" Camille online, I've learned that she is an excellent blogger. She writes a lot about pet health and care, and her blog posts are so thorough and accurate. She does an amazing job with her writing and educating pet parents.

So, the way this award works is that I have to answer 11 questions that Camille has come up with on my blog. Ready? Here we go!

1. How did you get started blogging? What was your inspiration?

After having my 2nd daughter and quitting my Vet Tech job to stay home with her, I got bored and needed something to do. I know taking care of a baby is already "something to do", but I needed something similar to a job to keep me occupied. I've always loved writing and regularly published newsletters for my family when I was a kid. I learned about blogging, decided to make my blog topic about my passion - pets, and the rest is history!

2. Where do you get your best ideas for blog posts?

The best ideas for blog posts are inspired by my own pets, usually. I also find a lot of inspiration from my past. I have a lot of great memories working as a Vet Tech, and refer to this often.

3. Name one thing you can't live without?

Why is this question so hard?! There are so many things I couldn't live without, but if I had to pick just one... I guess it might be my computer. Assuming that it has an internet connection, that is. Because technically internet service may be another thing?

4. What's one thing you wish all pet parents knew?

Also another tough question. One thing I wish pet parents were more aware of is being judgmental of other pet parents. We are all trying to care for our furbabies just as much as the next person, but everyone does it differently and shouldn't think less of someone for doing it their way. Disagree sure, but some people get downright hateful.

One day, a Vet I used to work with told us that even though some of the pet parent clients that come in do things that we might not like or agree on, we shouldn't judge them so much. Why? Because you don't know their story. He described a scenario that's always resonated with me and I've always remembered it.

You're driving down the highway and someone cuts you off. It makes you really mad and angry towards the other driver. But what you don't know, is that the person in the other car is rushing to the hospital to be with his wife while she's in labor.

5. What has been the most challenging thing so far about blogging?

Nowadays, the most challenging thing for me seems to be time. I used to have a week or more worth of blog posts ready to go in advance, but these days I like to prepare blog posts a day or two before they go live a lot of the time.

6. What do you love most about your pets?

I love them for many reasons, but one of my favorite things about them is that they are forgiving and will love you forever.

7. Salty or sweet?

I am not a big fan of a lot of sweets, but I do love my salt. I will put salt on almost anything, although I've cut back a lot lately. My favorite salty-ish snack is pickles.

8. What's the silliest thing you've ever seen a pet do?

I've seen a lot of pets do a lot of silly things. Thinking back to my Vet Tech days, I remember once having a gigantic bull mastiff (weighing over 100 pounds) escape from his boarding kennel while I was on duty for the weekend. I came up to the clinic at 5 pm to walk to the dogs like usual and when

I opened the door to the kennel, there Brutus was running around! There were things strewn all over the floor all chewed up. It was later determined that Brutus had managed to crawl under the chain link fence and bar somehow. It would have been quite a feat for a dog of his size and no other dog had ever done anything like that before.

9. Describe your perfect day.

Right now, my perfect day would start by sleeping in as long as I wanted. Waking up, having some sort of fancy brunch. Taking my kids to a babysitter for a much-needed kid-free evening with my boyfriend doing something fun. Eating a delicious dinner with a margarita. Maybe playing pool afterwards. I like pool and I'm kind of good at it sometimes.

10. Who was your very first pet?

My very first pet was a Shetland Sheepdog named Missy. She was really my parents' dog, because she was there before I was born. My dad owned a pawn shop and he traded a tool box to a man that had Missy for her.

11. Where is your dream vacation destination?

I'd love to travel to somewhere like Cancun again one day. A tropical place. I went there once when I was in the 9th grade and it was gorgeous and so much fun!

And those are all of the questions answered! Hopefully I didn't bore you too much. ;) Thanks again to Camille of Good Pet Parent for handing over the Liebster Award to me. It's much appreciated and I'm honored.

Have a great weekend everyone!

  1. Not boring at all, Ann! I enjoy learning more about my blogging friends. I really like your answer to #4...I try not to judge other pet parents either, even though a lot of us do things differently. We're all doing the best we can.

    1. Thanks Jan :) That speech he gave has always stuck with me, and I think it changed the way I think a lot. When I worked at the vet clinic, there was always a lot of chatter in the back amongst techs... it was just a lot of judgmental chatter. While I never was that bad with it, it really did open up my eyes.
