Help Your Cat Get Used to Drinking From a Fountain With PetSafe Current Pet Fountain

Cats get much of their water from the food they eat and it can sometimes be a tricky task to encourage them to stay hydrated and drink enough water. Cats seem to be very particular about how they drink their water. Some will only drink fresh water from a bowl and others insist on having a faucet turned on so they can drink from it.

While having someone turn a faucet on for you anytime you like might be a nice commodity, it's not always feasible. Cat parents do got to go to work and the pet store to pick up supplies every now and then, after all.

This is where a pet fountain can come in handy. Pet fountains can help encourage cats to drink more water and provide a fresh, filtered source of hydration. However, what if your cat is scared of the pet fountain? Some cats and dogs who are used to drinking from a bowl may not like the idea of drinking from a source of free-falling water.

For the past several weeks, we've been using a PetSafe Current Pet Fountain. Callie, my cat, has never used a pet fountain before and this fountain is the perfect place to start for her. Plus, it's nice and quiet which I appreciate.

Callie likes to drink lots of water. She used to have a very small bowl that I had to refill frequently. Plus, she also liked to tip it over a lot. The new PetSafe Current Pet Fountain holds more than enough water for her. We have the smallest size - a 40 oz. These are also available in Medium and Large, which would be great for dogs.

The PetSafe Current Pet Fountain comes in a stylish Orchid color, which I personally am a fan of. The fountain uses an activated carbon filter that removes bad tastes and odors from tap water. Definitely a plus for us. Our tap water is from a well, and has a strong sulfur odor that is reminiscent of eggs or farts... Don't worry, the water is fine - it's just fragrant, if you will.

The pump in the PetSafe Current Pet Fountain constantly circulates water through the bowl and filter, making it more appealing to pets and encouraging them to get their daily fill of water. Staying hydrated is important for cats. It keeps their kidneys and urinary tract healthy, and can encourage a quicker recovery when they are ill.

The PetSafe Current Pet Fountain is BPA-free, comes apart easily, and is dishwasher safe. It's affordable and prices range from $19.99 - $39.99 depending on the size. You can purchase one here.

Callie has no problems drinking from her PetSafe Current Pet Fountain. I was worried she wasn't at first, because I hadn't seen her using it. Then, I noticed the level in the bowl had gone down. It's on a counter top, so I know no one else has been drinking from it but her. I have seen her use it several times now and she seems to like it just fine.

This fountain is a hit for us, and I can't think of anything I dislike about it. It works great, the cat loves it, and she's getting clean filtered water in her system everyday.

    1. Maybe Easy would like one like this. Shiner seemed hesitant with our old one, but she eventually would drink from it. But, I couldn't keep my little human from playing it!

  5. Samantha and Luke both drink from our fountain. I wasn't sure if Sam was using it or not...but you have to find her down there at night when she thinks we won't see her! LOL. She has always been pretty good about drinking water, but she would love to have it from the faucet more often too if she could! Fountains definitely seem like the next best thing.

    1. I've discovered that Callie also likes drinking from the faucet occasionally. She will follow me in the bathroom and I turn on the bath tub water for her.
