Top 5 Ways People Show Their Cats Respect for Respect Your Cat Day

Respect Your Cat Day is March 28th. It's a day to let your cat know that you respect and appreciate all the hard work they put in to being a loyal furry companion to you. Not to mention all the snoopervising cats are responsible for. I'd probably never get anything done around here if it weren't for them... So for Respect Your Cat Day, I'm acknowledging all of my cats' relentless efforts to keep meal time on schedule.

How are other Americans showing their cats respect? NationalToday.com conducted a Respect Your Cat Day Survey by asking 1,000 cat owners about their relationship with their cats. Here are the top 5 ways Americans show their cats respect:

  1. Petting (83%)
  2. Verbal Praise (78%)
  3. Treats (65%)
  4. Pick up to hug or hold (62%)
  5. Gifts (16%)

Cats must be putting in overtime because 64% of Americans say that they would rather spend time with their cat than their significant other. 44% of Americans say they prefer cats over friends. 2 in 5 Americans say they'd rather spend time at home with their cat than go out with friends. And 1 in 5 people say that they've used their cats as an excuse to get out of activities they don't want to do.

I can't say that I've ever personally used my cats as an excuse, but who knows - maybe one day. 😉

So how are Americans going to celebrate Respect Your Cat Day today? NationalToday.com asked survey respondents how they plan to celebrate:

  1. Take naps (83%)
  2. Spend time together (67%)
  3. Watch movies or TV (56%)

We'll probably celebrate with an extra treat and play time. 1. My human certainly respects us! I have to say, Binga does not always return the favor.

  2. We don't respect them too much around here. They have food and shelter, sometimes we play with them and sometimes Mom pets and snuggles with them but usually the cats are troublemakers.

  3. As far as we're concerned, every day is respect us day. :)
