In the 60's and 70's, these cuties made their debut in the United States. They were originally bred in the Netherlands, hence the name. Netherland Dwarfs only weigh about 1 to 4 lbs on average. They may be small, but they have a big attitude and are sometimes a bit feisty.  They come in all different color varieties - white, black, grey and so on. Their ears are erect and proportionate with their bodies - tiny.

As with all rabbit breeds, feeding a proper diet is necessary to ensure good gastrointestinal and dental health. Did you know that a rabbit's teeth never stop growing? That is why they need to eat hay all day everyday. Pellets should not make up the main portion of any rabbit's diet. Pellets are actually rather fattening.

Netherland Dwarfs should have a sufficiently sized cage - just because they are small doesn't mean they should be kept in a little cage. They need to stretch their little bunny legs outside of their cage too! Preferably on a daily basis.

Don't forget that rabbits need veterinary care too! Take them to the vet at least annually! The doctor will perform a full physical exam. One of the most important parts of the exam is the oral exam. They usually hate this. Bunnies have molars that we can't see. Usually, it takes a trained professional to get a good look at them. Poor dental health can cause your furry friend to not want to eat, which is a troubling situation for most small mammals.

Netherland dwarfs make awesome house pets. They can be trained to use litter boxes, do tricks, and best of all - give you lots of love and affection!
