Ferret Friday | Pets From the Past

Today is my last installment of "Pet from the Past". So far, I've shared some past cats, Jenny the Sheltie, and Shiner as a puppy and young dog. I know I've got more old pet photos some place and I'll be sure to share them as soon as I find them.

Today I bring you Francis the Ferret. Francis was my first ferret and it was love at first sight. I knew I wanted him as soon as I met him.

Hello!

I was still in high school when I met Francis. Someone had given him to friend of mine. I was infatuated with Francis every time I went to their house and would play with him nonstop. These friends weren't the best pet caretakers and after complaining about the ferret some, they decided to offer him to me as I was hoping they would. I gladly took Francis home!

After several months, I was going to move in with some roommates who would not allow Francis, so I left him at home with my dad and brother. My dad fell in love with the little weasel, which is extremely odd for my dad. He's not the type of person to like pets like ferrets. He even built him a special outdoor cage to hang out in sometimes. Otherwise, Francis mostly had free roam of the house.

I soon moved back in with Francis at my old house and continued to care for him until he passed away. Shiner was also friends with this ferret. He was her very first ferret friend.

Being nosy.

Ferrets are lots of fun and full of personality. Francis was big on stealing straws from soda fountain drinks and hiding shoes. Some people complain that they are too stinky. They do have a musky odor, but it's not bothersome to me. I loved having a pet ferret!

  1. Great post. I confess, I've never met a ferret. Such a cute face :-)

  2. We use to have a lady who would walk her ferret on a harness down by the pond. She never ventured further into the park which was a good thing as not sure most of the dogs would be that friendly to put it mildly. Have a fabulous Friday.
    Best wishes Molly

    1. Yea a lot of people will walk their ferrets. Mine had a harness too and I'd take him out in the yard sometimes, but she didn't do well with the whole leash thing.

  4. Francis looks lovely! We had a lost ferret dash in through the back door when we opened it one morning. We found out who had lost him, it ended happily.

  7. Thanks for this wonderful post. It was a pleasure to read for my dad, because he had a white ferret as he was a puppy. Thanks for the help with Hell-mut and for the link to the turtle site.

    1. Agreed Rachel. Their smell is unique but it's not a deal breaker for me.

  12. TW adored ferrets! When she was in NC, the neighbors across the hall had 2 and her roommate and she took care of them while the neighbors were away.
