Teaching Kids to #ScoopThatPoop

As a mother of two daughters, I am always teaching them the importance of how to properly care for animals and be a responsible pet owner. I also teach them about wild animals and how it's best not to mess with them. There is so much to learn about caring for pets and animals, and it amazes me how much my oldest daughter already knows. She's 9 years old.

My other daughter is but a toddler at 2 years old, so she is still learning. For now, I mostly try to teach her how to be gentle with our pet rats and Shiner. She also loves animals and when we meet new doggies when we're out and about. They always put a smile on her face.

Lily and the Target dog.

Over the weekend, we were shopping for back to school clothes at Target. Violet, my 2 year old, picked out a Barbie doll that had a pet dog. The dog actually poops and Barbie can clean up after her dog. I couldn't help but to laugh at the toy. But hey, if they've been making human baby dolls that can poop for years why not teach kids to be responsible pet owners with a pooping dog toy too?

Barbie Potty Training Taffy doll set.

Since today is the monthly #ScoopThatPoop campaign with Sugar Golden Woofs and Oz the Terrier, I thought it would be a perfect topic for this month's post.

Taffy really poops!

I actually ended up convincing Violet to get a cheaper Barbie doll in the end. The Barbie Potty Training Taffy Doll was $20 and had too many small pieces that would get lost with a 2 year old. If I bought a $20 Barbie every time I went to the store, I'd be even more broke than I am now.

Doggie Doo kid's board game.

Another dog poop game for kids that I've seen recently is the Doggie Doo Board Game. I first saw it back at Christmas time and thought it was hilarious. Apparently, the game originated in Europe and is now available in the US. Here's a product description of the board game from ToysRUs -

"Doggie Doo, Europe's top new action game, has come to America. Feed and walk your little pup, if he makes a mess you clean it up! When you squeeze his leash he makes a gassy sound that gets louder and louder until...plop. The first to clean up after the dog three times wins."

So what do you think? Are these games a good way to help our young kids learn to be responsible pet owners? Who knew cleaning up dog poop could be so fun!

  1. Oh my goodness, that is too funny!!! When I was growing up, they were just coming out with the dolls that wet themselves (like Baby Alive). It's interesting to see what toys are available for kids now. They may actually be a good way to teach kids about dog ownership.

    1. Yea, I wanted that Baby Alive so bad and I did get one. My daughter has Baby Alive too. At least this dog isn't as gross. I mean the poop is just hard plastic whereas baby alive is real mushy food stuff.

  3. Yes, I think it's a great idea. Plus, it's the only time poop is fun.

  4. I had to idea they made those, that barbie is a great idea, even if it made me giggle. It really is ridiculous how simple cleaning up after your animals is, yet so many people disregard it. It's great that others are taking notice and helping children learn the responsibilities of pet ownership.

  11. Sorry, we dread kids walking dogs around here. Everyone picks up but the kids. Pretty soon I think Mom is going to blow a gasket and go talk to the parents because she yells at the kids and the kids could care less. The kids let the kids pee and poop all over the lawn too, not just by the street. Luckily school starts soon, so they won't be walking much anymore.

    1. Haha well I don't blame you. Maybe their moms need to buy them a Barbie doll or something lol.

  13. I remember Barbie (of course) and I "think" I remember the dog, but I know I don't remember "poop" - is this something new? I think it's a great thing for adults, since we still have so many people who still don't scoop. Great post!

  14. MOL ! That's great and funny ways to teach them something that's usually not so much fun ! Paws up for the doll and the game ! Purrs

  15. These toys are pretty funny but I think they serve a good purpose. No one is too good to pick up dog poop - if you want a dog you've gotta deal with what comes out of it haha!

  16. Haha, I've seen Doggie Doo. If I had kids, I think it'd be a good laugh.
