Pawsome Pet of the Week - Rolo

Today, we are featuring our very first Pawsome Pet of the Week. Each week, a new Pawsome Pet will be featured. Each of our pets have something unique that they bring to the table and this week's featured pet is no exception.

Rolo is a German Shepherd and Husky mix estimated to at 8 to 10 years old. He lives in Canada with his parents and brother. I was fortunate in having the chance to interview Rolo because he sounds like such a busy guy! When he's not busy fundraising for pets in need, he enjoys going on road trips with his momma and movie nights - with popcorn, of course.

And boy, does he have some good stories to tell too. Rolo is a special dog (he has canine epilepsy) who was rescued from the Fort McMurray SPCA in June of 2011. When I asked Rolo if he had any special stories to share, this is what he barked about:

"I have lots of interesting stories but one I would like to share is one that has powerful meaning. After I came to the Fort McMurray SPCA they found out I had Canine Epilepsy. I was adopted out to a family with kids and they didn't like me because I was different. When I would have a seizure the kids would bug me and they ended up bringing me back to the shelter after a week. They didn't even give me a chance to adjust.
After spending a few months at the shelter I got very attached to the kennel attendants, they were all my new mommies. One day a guy came in and showed some interest in me, I was scared and didn't want to go anywhere near him. The next day a girl came in and wanted to see me, I acted the same way. I heard that they had some interest in me and filled out an adoption application.
As happy as I was to leave the shelter I was so scared for my new life. They were so loving and happy to be around but I still didn't show them that I liked them; I had put them under my dog surveillance.
After a few months I decided it was time to show them that I loved them. I want everyone to know that when you adopt an animal you may not know what they have been through in their life, so please give them time to adjust and we will open up to you. I am so happy that I am in a loving home and that my new parents didn't give up on me. "

See what I mean? He really does have some great stories to tell and this one has a meaningful lesson that some humans could learn a lot from.

I asked Rolo what made him a Pawsome Pet. It's clear that he's highly qualified for the position.

"Ever since I was adopted by my amazing family in 2011, I have spent my free time helping others. I am a registered pet therapy dog as well as a fundraising extraordinaire. I have participated and hosted my own fundraisers for my former shelter and to this date we have donated & fundraised around $10,000 in monetary & material donations for them. I also have Canine Epilepsy and with that we help bring awareness and support to people fighting this horrible disease that affects my EPI-Friends."

Aside from being such an amazing fundraiser, Rolo is also handsome. He claims to have "nice hair" and "beautiful root beer brown eyes". Judging from his photos, I'd have to say that he's not exaggerating. One of his special abilities is "squeaking" rather than barking and he loves steak and cheese. (Good choices Rolo!)

Rolo and his mom have a blog - Confessions of a Rescue Mom - where they share their adventures. You can also find Rolo on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

Special thanks to this week's Pawsome Pet of the Week, Rolo, for making time in his busy schedule for us to interview him. Check back with us next Friday for another Pawsome Pet of the Week!
