Snapshots on Sunday: Purple

Each week, we join the 52 Snapshots of Life Photo Challenge. There's a new word and theme we have to capture on camera each week, and this week the word is "purple". Purple is my favorite color. Even though Shiner's favorite color is pink, I still have plenty of purple stuff for her to wear.

In our photo for this week's challenge, Shiner is wearing her purple Martha Stewarts Pets sweater and purple Puller dog toy. And she's being a little silly, as usual.

It's been a very cold week for us. I know, we live in Texas but it really has been cold! Temperatures have been in the 30's and it's been very damp and rainy. I've been having to force Shiner to go outside to use the bathroom because she just hates going out there when it's cold and wet.

Callie sees the dog, but the dog doesn't see her...

Callie and Shiner have been continuing to meet each other, or I should probably just say "face off". If Shiner notices the cat, she will stare at her. That's when I have to step in so Shiner doesn't try to chase her. Usually, Shiner doesn't even notice Callie is sitting on the couch. Callie will watch her very closely. Callie is very good and patient with the dog, but Shiner is so stubborn that it's going to take a while for her to learn the cat is OK. If she leaves it alone, it won't mess with her.

On Thursday, Shiner wasn't quite acting like herself and I got kind of worried. At first, I didn't know what was wrong with her. She just seemed slow and was walking around kind of funny. After observing her for a while and examining her more closely, I suspected her neck was hurting.

Feeling poopy.

I watched her Friday morning and I felt so bad for her. Poor thing wouldn't move off the couch to go and chase the cat. I had to help her stand up. So, I called her doctor and made an appointment to bring her in. Shiner's vet confirmed that she did have neck pain and prescribed some medications.

Driving to see the vet, and not happy about it.

I gave Shiner one of her Rimadyl last night and she felt so much better afterwards. She was able to get on and off the bed by herself again and wasn't so stiff. Still, I need to make sure she isn't too active and crazy.

I plan to post more about Shiner's neck pain soon, to help others identify the symptoms. For now, I'm just happy that she seems almost back to normal in such a short amount of time.

Hope you're all having a nice (and warm) Sunday! Thanks to The Lazy Pit Bull for hosting the 52 Snapshots of Life Photo Challenge. You can check out more photos at the links below.

  12. Poor Shiner...maybe a dog chiropractor? Bailie saw one as a young pup. Hope the neck improves as not chasing a cat is not a good thing!

    1. Yea, her vet did say they have one there once a week. I'm not sure she'll need it because she seems pretty fine now.

  14. I'm glad Shiner is feeling better. I love her purple sweater! I almost thought of doing something with the Puller too for the "purple" theme, but never even thought of putting it on one of the dogs like a necklace. Cute!

  15. We are behind so hope that we will read soon that Shiner is much better! Only she can wear a purple sweater that well! The cat/dog situation is a bit different here. Rhette has learned that he doesn't need to worry about me and Taffy so he just does what he wants! Love Dolly

    1. Callie seems to have some ghetto in her too ;) She knows when Shiner is inside and goes to her safe place. Sometimes she sits under the coffee table and watches. When Shiner notices her she'll go stare at her. Instead of running and hiding, Callie comes out and starts giving her the one-two instead of running away lol... I don't think Shiner seems to be stressing her too much.

  18. Oh no, don't tell me our little Shiner is not her best! I'm so behind in my reading, but I am so happy to hear it's not super serious and she's on the mend. About that sweater, she's making the purple look extra special! Take care ya'll
