Giant Catfish at the Lake

Yesterday, my daughters and I visited Lake Travis with my dad and my brother. We visited a restaurant that you can drive to on your boat called the "Gnarly Gar". Swimming around the docks of the floating restaurant are HUGE catfish and carp. They like to hang around because people feed them food. Check out the video below to see what I mean.

The video shows a large crowd of catfish, although there are many carp around too. Some of the biggest catfish there could easily have mouths that span 12 inches wide. It was fun, and my three year old preferred trying to feed her dinner to the fish rather than eating it herself!

And that's all I got for a *mostly* Wordless Wednesday. Have a great day!

  1. So many, it is almost creepy. I guess it is not a good place for swimming?

  4. We have a restaurant in the Keys called the Hungry Tarpon. It is at Robbie's Marina and Robbie protects a large school of Tarpon at his docks. You can buy little fishes and fee the Tarpon...even the dog can go out on the pier to do that. It is so much fun! I love the "Eew, you almost stepped in duck poop" in the video. BOL

  7. I love catfish and it still astounds me how big they are, because whenever I eat catfish, it's a little piece of fish :)

    1. Their burgers are the most popular I think. I'm sure they don't serve fresh-caught fish... I ordered a chicken fried steak and I'll admit it was probably the smallest CFS I've ever had from any restaurant. But, it was pretty tasty.

  12. Ha, that's new since our mom was down there! Cool way to get to it, though. There's a town in Kansas where you fly your airplane in and taxi up to the restaurant...down Main street, even!

    1. It used to be called "Shades". But Shades isn't there anymore and now it's the Gnarly Gar.

    2. MOL - I KNEW you guys would like this post ;) And yea the salmon patty mixed with the cat food incident was silly. Cat Daddy was not happy that his precious patty had cat food on it. Maybe he should open his eyes next time? ;) How are you subscribed? With the MailChimp RSS? So weird... I've been getting all the emails this week.
