Pawsome Pets of the Week - Dezi and Lexi

This week, we have two PAWmazing Pawsome Pets to share with you all. Dezi and Lexi, a couple of gorgeous ladycats. Dezi did most of the talking in our exclusive interview, but Sister Lexi is just as special.

Dezi

Deztinee Izabella, or just "Dezi" for short, is a "real Southern Belle Ragdoll" and has her 6th birthday coming up in just a few days on November 1st. Dezi's sister, Lexi (short for Laramie Alexandra), is a 16 year old Egyptian Mau. They were both rescued as very young kittens by their Mommy. Both Dezi and Lexi were born and raised in Oklahoma. They live in a small town in the south of the state.

Both Dezi and Lexi are Pawsome Pets because they are service animals for their disabled Mommy.

"We are both Service cats for our disabled mommy so we're not really classified as "pets". Altho' we have been specifically trained to purrform many tasks the ADA doesn't recognize us since we are not dogs, and classifies us as merely companion animals. Thankfully the State of Oklahoma as well as many other states accept a broader range of species as service animals. Mommy says it doesn't matter what anybody says, we're the most pawsum girls ever.  We love unconditionally and keep her entertained with our daily antics."
Lexi

These two amazing cats have been trained to perform some amazing and very important tasks to help out their Mom.

"Mommy trained us to do things like drive her wheelchair and dial 911. She also trained us to focus our biscuit makin' on certain areas so we can give her massages. We do a lot of things to help mommy continue to live independently. Our training is never really over. As mommy ages, new things that she needs help with come up all the time. So everyday we continue to learn more and more ways to help her. "

Dezi shared an amazing story with me of the first time her Mommy realized just how special and helpful she was.

"When I was just a wee baby (3 1/2 - 4 weeks old) I knew my mommy was different. And one day I smelled and sensed that her body chemistry was off and I knew something was wrong. At the time I didn't know what was gunna happen but I knew I needed to tell her cuz she didn't seem to know. So I started patting at her ankles (the only thing I could reach), turning round and round and meowing really loudly and frantically until she paid attention to me. She still passed out cause she didn't know what I was doing, but before long she caught on and was/is so proud of me. I'm able to tell mommy that she needs to sit down because she's going to pass out about 20 minutes before it actually happens. Mommy says all animals can sense these things but not many feel the need to alert their human unless they've been specifically trained to do so. Mommy said that when I chose her she just knew I was special."
Other than being service cats for their Mommy, Dezi and Lexi enjoy doing normal cat things as well. They enjoy snacking on freeze dried chicken breast (they prefer white meat) and playing with catnip toys in their spare time.

"Our most favorite activity would be loving on mommy and hangin' out in her lap. Although sissy does enjoy a good nap and I really like lookin' out the door and window from our cat tree. We also love hearing about our furiends in the blogosphere when mommy reads their posts and comments to us. And we both love our Yeowww nip toys."

Both ladies seem like confident cats, so I asked what they liked most about themselves.

"OMC My favorite thing about myself? Mommy says it's not ladylike to toot your own horn, but I think my floofy fluffy fur is beautiful. And I really like that I'm a social butterfly and love making new furiends. Sis Lexi says she likes that in spite of her age she's still young at heart."
Special thanks to both Dezi and Lexi for taking the time for this week's interview. They are both truly spectacular cats!

If you would like to get to know Dezi and Lexi better, you can find them over at their blog - DezizWorld. And because Dezi is a social butterfly, she's on social media too. You can find her on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Stop by, say hello, and make some new friends!

We'll see you here next week for another Pawsome Pet of the Week!

  1. I have such HUGE admiration for these girls because they perform such valuable services for their human! And I think it is ridiculous that ADA doesn't recognize them for what they do. We kitties have lots of talents that humans don't realize we have.

  2. It's amazing what Lexi&Dezi can do.... and they are a super team and always there to support their mom. It's time that all animals who support their peeps should get that "service pet badge" :o)

  13. Dezi and Lexi are indeed clever cats and serve a valuable service for mom Audra. Given time I believe the US will recognize the value of cats as service animals and when the US moves so will Canada.
