How a Pet Camera Has Given Me Peace of Mind

Last month, I got a new pet camera to spy on my pets with. Since I've been using my Vimtag VT-361 Indoor Camera for over a month now, I've learned quite a bit about what my pets do at home while I'm not around. There are a few things I worry about, and using this pet camera has certainly given me peace of mind.

Uh oh... better be on my best behavior!

Relief is one of the biggest benefits I've personally experienced from using this pet camera. My main concern is that Shiner and Callie are not getting along when I'm away. I don't want them to fight with each other and hurt each other. They don't particularly like each other, but I'm somewhat pleased with the way they act around each other. It's slow progress, but it's happening.

If you are wondering why I don't just separate them when I'm gone, I'll explain. I'd prefer to keep them in separate rooms. However, when I put Shiner in my bedroom and Callie in the kitchen/living room Shiner just opens the doors and goes in the living room to sleep on the couch. She won't stay in that room.

What I've found from watching the two of them on my Vimtag pet camera is that they are both actually pretty well-behaved when they are in the same room together. Shiner mostly sleeps on the couch, and Callie sleeps on her cardboard couch on her table. That's about it! This was a big relief for me.

This is my favorite spot!

I've also discovered a few of their habits. Shiner has a bad one, and that is licking and chewing herself... a lot. She is going through quite an itchy phase right now. I've also seen Shiner doing a few weird things, one of which was standing on the arm of the couch to look out the window.

I've been good - I promise!

Since our Christmas tree is up right now, I have been curious about what Callie does with it when no humans are around. I've discovered quite a few scratch marks on a couple of presents. Also, I've caught her (in person) knocking gift bags over, removing the tissue paper, and then sitting inside of the bags. I wasn't able to record it because she is fast, but I also witnessed her (on the pet camera) running up to the tree and using the trunk like a scratching post.

Here are a few of the clips I was able to record from the Vimtag pet camera from my phone.

I am glad to use my Vimtag pet camera to monitor the two of them while I'm away. And I'm very relieved that they are both mostly well-behaved! Although, I am still monitoring them regularly to see if I can catch them doing anything really naughty.

The Vimtag pet camera will allow continuous recording if you insert an SD card to record onto. I may have to pick one up sometime and play it back. For now, I just check up on the pets periodically using my phone via the Vimtag application. The phone app does allow me to watch, record, take pictures and even speak to my pets through the camera.

If you are curious about what your pets are doing when you're away, a pet camera is a fun and easy way to do it! Vimtag pet cameras are available for purchase on Amazon here.

Have you ever used a pet camera to monitor your pets? What did you discover?

  3. I love this camera....I am sure you saw all of the action that went on at Emma's house when her human used hers.....there was some real naughtiness taking place! Wondering if Shiner's licking so much while you were gone is "stress licking?" She probably misses you! DakotasDen

    1. Haha - I did! She was able to capture some really juicy evidence! I know Shiner doesn't like it when I leave her, but she seems relaxed in the videos to me. Also, she is licking like that while I am around right now. I think she's having her seasonal allergies flare up right now.

  6. Mom gets no piece of mind as usually when she looks, Bailie is in trouble again and Mom is too far away to do anything about it. We do love our Vimtag, though. It is a great tool and fun as well.

  7. This is interesting! I am still crating JAx when no ones home. I am terrified that he is going to do something destructive in my absence. With this camera I could roll down the street and check him out LOL Should he get into something I could be home before whatever it was gets totally destroyed.

    1. Haha - that's actually a cool idea! Kind of like a test to see if he's ready to be left out yet.
