Pet Blooper Reel #1

I take A LOT of pictures of my pets. Sometimes, I will take anywhere from 20-50 photos during one session. This is usually when I need to take pictures for a product review. I know many people comment on what a good model my pets are, but in reality they are NOT most of the time.

This year, we are joining a fun Pet Blogger Blooper Round-Up hosted by The Lazy Pit Bull to showcase some of our blooper photos that just didn't ever make the cut to the blog. Any kind of blogger is welcome to join, and we think this will be a lot of fun! This blog hop takes place on the 2nd Friday of every month.

Shiner refuses to sit or lay down when and where I want her to. And when we finally compromise, she refuses to look at the camera or will try to walk away right when I'm in position for the perfect shot. Also, she has lately been trying to steal some of the products I'm trying to photograph her with.

During our photo shoot for our Trusty Tails Treat Kitchen review, she stole this bag of dog treats from me and made a run for it. She stopped to try and open the bag herself, but I still needed to take pictures of it. I literally had to wrestle her for this bag of treats and was a little out of breath afterwards.

This photo was taken moments before the dog treat theft occurred.
Callie can be quite the diva for photo shoots. If I try to make her sit somewhere that she doesn't want to sit, she will put up quite the fuss with hissing and growling. Therefore, her photo shoots are usually short-lived and I have to try and take pictures as fast as possible. I have learned that it's best to set up something where she likes to sit on a regular basis. Enticing her with tissue paper also works pretty well.

For Callie's blooper, she may look innocent posing with the pet camera but she was really angry. This photo shoot didn't last very long and I was as fast as possible. Her paw is extended and ready to strike at any moment!

I will cut you, human!

As for the rats, Jack and Gus, they aren't bad for photos. It's just that they are so small and don't hold still for very long. Photographing small pets requires quick thinking, good lighting, a decent camera, and patience. I just kind of let them run around where ever they want to and try to capture the best moments that I can.

One of the hardest parts about taking pictures of Jack and Gus is trying to capture them when they sleeping together all cute like. As soon as they realize I am there looking at them, they have to bum rush me as fast as possible and then the moment is over.

You want closeup?!?!
On top of all those obstacles, I also have a 3 year old daughter who insists on being naked most of the time. She's gotten better about wearing clothes since I purchased her some new onesie pajamas with feeties. She sneaks herself into a lot of my photos and videos. I usually have to do a separate photo shoot with her, because she wants me to take her picture too.

Photo bomb!

So yea... taking pictures of pets is not always easy. There can be a lot of work behind it, but the challenge is what makes it fun half the time!

Are your pets easy to photograph? Tell us in the comments!

  1. MOL about your naked kid! At least she's comfortable in her own skin, which is more than I can say about most adult humans.

  2. That's hilarious! I always wonder how other people get their pets to pose so perfectly when mine always sense when the camera is ready and immedialtely stop doing that cute thing they were just doing.

  6. My cat's impossible to photograph. She walks away when she sees the camera coming. I'll have to dig through my pics, see if I can add to this.

  9. I truly don't think these are bloopers at all!

  10. I don’t like photo shoots and ours are usually 20 snaps max. TW now bribes me with treats but that doesn’t always work since my head is down eating. I see you have a porn star in the making at your house.

    1. That camera photo shoot was like... 8 shots only I think lol. I do come across the head down eating problem too. That's a tricky one. Also - you crack me up!

  14. Oh, this sounds like a fun idea for a hop - I'll have to try to remember! Love your blooper shots. LOL about the naked photo-bombing, If that happened at our house it could only be the hubs - which could get xrated quickly! :)

  15. Those are super cute bloopers! I love the one of Shiner with the treats! Maybe you can train your daughter, "if you keep your clothes on" I'll take your photo! :D Humans are a lot more difficult to train than the pups, though! LOL

    1. Yes, those little humans are difficult to train. She likes wearing her new Frozen Jammies and Spiderman costume. And sometimes she will dress up on her own, which I don't complain about.

  16. Hailey is pretty good, but we still get bloopers. What a fun bloghop!

  17. I take TONS of pictures, too, many of which end up in the trash. I love your "bloopers!"

  18. Photobombs or one pet deciding to come in for a closeup are usual bloopers for us too. I don't think any of our photobombs have ever been quite as embarrassing or cute as your daughter though! She just looks so proud back there and when one of the pets photobombs they look guilty.
