I am not too familiar with the Kangal personally. I have to agree, however, that ANY breed of dog deserves a loving home inside no matter how big they are!! Thank you very ...That was very interesting to read. Thank you very much for this article. (I was reading up about Saluki when I found this)

To Adjee (and of course everybody else interested in Kangals)
I actually own 2 Turkish Kangals. And yes - this breed is extremly old. It goes back more than 3000 BC and I think they would be one of the oldest breeds around.
It is an amazing experience to live with dogs that go back to babylonian times and I'm so grateful to be able to have them near me.
I've never even dreamt about ever having a dog like that and now (well...ok... 3 to 4 years ago) I gave a home to 2 of them - a boy and a girl. And what can I say? I'm sooooooooo in love with this breed! Basically I can say, that I found MY dog. ^^

Maybe you'd like to have a look at these pages?:

http://www.dogkangal.com/the-breed-history-2/

and

http://www.veanimals.com/dogs/breed-encyclopedia/335-anatolian-shepherd-dog-karabash.html

(on this site it is mentioned, that Kangals are not meant to live in the house. Sorry, but that is bullshPEEEEEEP!!! Come evenig there is a good 100kg of dog that want nothing else but to cuddle up with the 5"2inch me and try to get comfy on my lap. They won't be happy by only living inside, but they NEED their family contact and a good portion of cuddles!
Apart from that, the page is quite informative ^^)

And last but not least I want to apologize to everybody that had a hard time reading this. I'm from Germany (I'm half German and half Turkish) and my English is obviously not the best. Sorry.
Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14854357321113027257noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6382480381687088490.post-59396769252763056542014-05-13T15:51:59.478-05:002014-05-13T15:51:59.478-05:00would be interested to know if the Turkish Kangal ...would be interested to know if the Turkish Kangal is as old as people claim and what it originally looked like before breeders messed with itAdjeenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6382480381687088490.post-60224813183137840372014-03-06T13:26:48.015-06:002014-03-06T13:26:48.015-06:00Actually according to genetics the oldest dogs are...Actually according to genetics the oldest dogs are the common pariah village dogs world wide. The malamute is a modern breed whose DNA is hardly related to the Eskimo dogs found in the archeological record in Alaska. Inuit is a Canadian term and not used here in Alaska. So the Mal has a lot of other dog breeds in its DNA other than Alaskan Eskimo dogs which are extinct. However the Alaskan interior village dog is very ancient - as is the Dingo and the Indog from India. These dogs are far older than any suggested here.
