I am unsure if I want to start using it though. My pal Oz the Terrier and I were chatting about and we are both pretty interested in using it, but it does have some downsides. The only downside is that you have to have a Google+ profile to leave a comment. No anonymous comments. If you'd like to check it out, you can visit Oz's blog since he might turn it on today.
Also, I've found a way to use both the old Blogger comment system plus the new G+ comment system. If you click the G+ icon below, you can see what it's like. This little trick also has it's flaws. There's also a screenshot I took below.
Here's a screenshot of what it looks like. |
Do you have a G+ profile? Would you still leave comments on my blog if you had to use your G+ profile to do so? If you don't have a G+ profile, would you create one to leave a comment?
Sorry for all the questions, but I really am curious to know if changing to Google+ comments would restrict anyone from commenting. I've created a poll below so that I can get a better idea of whether or not I should use the new commenting system. It's much nicer than the old Blogger comment system except for the no anonymous comments thing. Then again, maybe that would limit spam too.
I prefer to use our blogger profile for leaving comments although I use google+ too for following people who don't have blogs but i like to keep them separate,xxRachel
ReplyDeleteWe just use blogger profile and we therefore don't see comments made to our comments. That always seems a pity. Have a terrific Thursday.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes Molly
There is no way to see the comments on Blogger unless you subscribe to them. :( My biggest pet peeve about Blogger. Just glad there might be a way to fix that.
DeleteEveryone loves comments :) That's the extra bonus on blogging.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, for us either way is the same as long as there's no capta (I forgot the spelling)...We still prefer wordpress tho ;)
I have a google + but am still not all that clear on how to use it correctly or what 2+ means but ill try anything .., well almost anyhow
ReplyDeleteHehe - it does take a bit to get used to I suppose Max. I felt the same way at first, but now I LOVE G+. I think it might be my favorite type of social media.
DeleteI don't know if I have a google+ profile or not. You seem to be leaving comments on my blog which is great and I am leaving one on yours so it must all be working. So it is all good. Have a great day.
ReplyDeleteThis is actually still the Blogger comment system. I believe that you have a G+ profile Marg because I think I'm friends with you on there. I could be wrong though. If you want to see the G+ comments, go to the top of the comment section and click the G+ icon.
DeleteI won't want to use my personal Google+ account but I wouldn't have any problems if it lets me use my business account to leave comments.
ReplyDeleteI don't understand Google + or any of the new gadgets, we are Blond you know.. BOL.. xx00xx
ReplyDeleteMollie and Alfie
I'm not a fan of forcing people into one type of social media for any reason. Prior to my getting on FB with my blog, I found it so annoying (and I still do to a point) that companies would run FB exclusive contests..
ReplyDeleteI hated having to take anonymous comments off my blog, but I had to because I was getting so badly spammed..
By limiting yourself, you are making yourself less accessible to people..
Thank you for the feedback - this is exactly what I am trying to avoid. That's why I have it set up as an option above. I am also starting to get very badly spammed...
DeleteI'm not familiar with the G+ thingy, but I hope I can read about next time (and I hope I can understand it :o)
ReplyDeleteyea for sure it is more easy.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, i do not use Google +. i have created a account just to leave comments... :-P
to my mind, the better way would be to use facebook to leave comment on blogs (but it should be a perfect world... ;-D )
I'm not sure if there is a way to do that with Blogger Thibaud. Facebook is not my favorite form of social media anyways.
DeleteHey Ann! Awww the new G+ comment system! The way I see it is, it's your blog, do what you want. I will comment however I have to. Heck, most of the time I have to jump through hoops with Captcha on Blogger blogs, so why not try something new? As you said, some ppl aren't on G+ and some of those who are, don't understand it. Wordpress has the Facebook comment system plugin that I see some bloggers use on their blogs. Some use it, some don't. I thought I read that you can keep both G+ comment system AND default Blogger comments enabled at the same time? I'll have to remember where.... hmm... anywho, I'll be commenting either way! Rock on gf!
ReplyDeleteIt's enabled right now :) Thank you Bren!
DeleteThis is looking good on your blog, however I am finding that the G+ comments do not appear on mine...nor do they show in the comment count. I may just switch back to the old commenting system depending on how many do not have G+.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your help.
Oz
I WOULD NOT like to use G+ comments ("poll" feedback referenced by Gizmo). I have a G+ page for my blog. I can only use my personal profile comment. The two are separate and never the two shall meet....therefor if I use G+ comments people won't be able to see what my blog is. Also, the posts on my personal page is for a different audience and I prefer that not confuse my pet blog friends.
ReplyDeleteI also try to keep things separate, with Facebook anyways.
DeleteWe are in the process of de-googling so eventually we will trash our Google+ account as well.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the input Brian, I do remember your de-googling approach.
DeleteI do have a G+ account, but it's under my own name not my blog name! I haven't really looked into using G+ for comments on my blog, so will stick to blogger for the time being. I think it could unnecessarily complicate things and maybe put people off commenting! I stopped commenting on blogs which use other systems eg discus, as you have to have yet another account!
ReplyDeleteI am interested to know how you get on though, as I will probably think again! x
I'll have to let you know - so far it seems as though switching to the new commenting system is not in the best interest of most people. That's what I had figured though.
DeleteWell, I'm terribly confused... I have a G+ account, but don't really know what I'm doing over there.
ReplyDeleteI notice when you comment on my blog, and I click on your name, I go to your G+ page, but I really want to go to your blog. So I have to do the extra steps to get there.
I am sooo confused. I noticed today when I went in to my blogger "design" page that there was something about "turning on Google + comments" - but was worried that if I did that, folks w/out G+ would not be able to comment (and I know I have readers who are not on G+). For now, I just left well enough alone...
Hey Jackie, that's because I comment using my G+ profile. I don't really know how that all happened because I did like the Blogger profile, but for some reason Blogger made me convert awhile back.
DeleteHmm.. I have a G+ account and I admit to not using it as often. Interesting that Blogger is forcing you to have a G+ account to comment. I would hope it doesn't drive readers away. Good luck to you. I wanted to share a wonderful award with you and even though you're not a part of the WordPress family..*hugs* Please got to http://peacelovenwhiskers.com/about/awards/ to claim it. =^..^= Thank you so much for all you do.
ReplyDeleteWell, they aren't forcing us... yet anyways. There are lots of commenting options for Blogger, but it's just a new thing. Thank you for the award!
DeleteWe don't have Google+ and won't get it. We remember when if you had Google+ and had a blog with a different profile name, they would delete it. Too risky.
ReplyDeleteHmmm that's interesting... I think I've heard something similar to that before. No matter anyways, since I won't be using this but I figured that would be the case anyways.
DeleteThe problem I have with the G+ accounts is that if someone leave a comment on my blog & I want to leave a comment on their blog in return often I'm not allowed to do so if I'm not in their circles.
ReplyDeleteWould you mind sending me an e-mail at PBU at comcast dot net with how I would make it so that readers can use either. Also, could you elaborate on the flaws that you have found doing that?
Thanks so much,
Pam & Oskar
