On the 31st of this month, trick-or-treaters will be out in full force. Keep your pets indoors this Halloween for their safety. It's unfortunate, but some people out there are not animal lovers and could harm your pets. Not to mention all the traffic in the neighborhood is a threat in itself. You want to keep your furry friends away from the dangerous surplus of cars. It will be dark, so drivers may not see loose cats or dogs. If you take your dog out trick-or-treating with the family, be sure to keep him or her on a leash.
Since it's unlikely you will be walking your cat, make sure to lock them up inside. Cats should be indoor only pets anyways, even though some of them disagree. They live longer with an indoor only lifestyle.
On another note, keep all that delicious candy away from your pets! You wouldn't want them to get sick from indulging themselves in chocolate and candy wrappers. Please note that chocolate is toxic to dogs. In most cases, they would need to eat dark baker's chocolate to become severely ill. A small dog, however, could become sick from a small amount of chocolate. If your dog does happen to get into the sweets, give your veterinarian a call and let them know about it.
Hopefully you and your furry friends have a good holiday and stay out of trouble. I'd love to see pictures of your pets in their costumes so please share them! Remember to stay safe and keep your pets inside this Halloween!
