Mother's Day Treats for Moms and Their Dogs

Mother's Day is a special day for all the moms out there. I know that many people don't have human children, but rather look as their pets as their kids. Chocolate covered strawberries are a favorite treat for moms on Mother's Day, but unfortunately can't be shared with the family pets because it's toxic to them. I recently found a great alternative treat that dog moms can share with their pooches and decided to give it a try.

These treats are frozen yogurt dipped strawberries. Perfect snacks for moms and their furry kids! I wanted to give these a try because they look delicious, Shiner loves strawberries, and I thought they'd be a great snack for my own teething baby human. Here's what I did - 

You only need 2 ingredients to make these treats - Plain Yogurt (nonfat is best if your sharing with your pooch) and strawberries. You'll also need some parchment or wax paper too. 

Only 2 ingredients needed - strawberries and plain yogurt. 

I cut the greens off of the strawberries after washing them. Using a fork, I dipped the strawberries in the yogurt until they were fully coated and placed them on some parchment paper. I get the feeling that if I hadn't been quick about getting them all done, the yogurt would have started to come off of the berries.

After only an hour, they were very frozen. I cut them up into some bite sized pieces and let the rest of the family have some taste tests.

First up was Shiner. I already knew that Shiner loved strawberries. She will actually eat the strawberry tops, which I find kind of weird for a dog. She loved them! They would make a great treat for a hot day. I sat down to eat some next and there was Shiner, begging for more.

Violet had some too. I think she was a little surprised at how cold they were at first, but she really liked them. 

Violet wasn't much for posing for the camera and just bum rushed me for a piece. 

My boyfriend had some too. His suggestion was that they be "less cold" next time. I have to agree with him and let mine sit out and thaw for a bit before finishing eating them. I think the best freezing times are probably 30 minutes to 1 hour. If you leave them in the freezer too long, your bound to get stuck with a rock hard strawberry. 

We give these treats 4 paws up and can't wait to try them again on Mother's Day for a special snack. Something that mom, the kids, and even the dog can all enjoy together!
