Black Cat Appreciation Day | Black Cat Super Stars of the Internet

August 17th is National Black Cat Appreciation Day. Black cats are often overlooked for adoption at shelters. Why? Well, I think it's silly but there is a stigma associated with black cats. I'm sure you've heard it before - "black cats are bad luck". Supposedly, if one crosses your path it's unlucky.

First of all, that's just ridiculous and a silly supersition. Did you know that is some countries like Great Britain and Japan, it is considered GOOD luck to have a black cat cross your path? It's even good luck to keep a black cat in your home in some places around the world.

Black cats are just as good a pet as any other color of cat available. To show our appreciation for black cats on this special day, we've created a list of black cat super stars of the internet. Most of the cats on our list have blogs. If you've never met them before, stop by say hello and wish them a Happy Black Cat Appreciation Day!

I'm sure I'm forgetting someone on this list because there are just way too many awesome black cats out there to keep tabs on. Just another reason why they deserve our appreciation I think.

You know what else is kind of interesting about our black cat list? I heard that most black cats are males. Well, more than half of the cats listed here are mancats. Just a cool observation and a little trivia for you guys.

Which internet black cat super stars are your favorites? If you have anyone you'd like to add to this list, share them in our comments section! And have a spectacular Black Cat Appreciation Day!

  1. We find it quite difficult to understand as black cats are lucky over here. We hope the week ahead see many adopted. Good luck to all. Have a serene easy Sunday.
    Best wishes Molly

  3. Oh, I'm going to check out those links, thank you for sharing. I didn't know that most were males either, I heard that about tabbies somewhere years ago as well. I love black cats, it's nice to know they have their own appreciation day.

  4. We think black cats are super special and it's only by luck of the draw that we don't have one living with us.

  9. Thank you so much for including Samantha! She was miffed that I didn't know about this day, but now she feels better! We don't know all of those other cats, other than Ernie and Nin, so now Sam is insisting we go meet all those other handsome black mancats. :)

  10. Meowska (aka,MC for Meow Cat) is our newly adopted Black Kitty. She is sweet and layed back. No bad luck here she was adopted just after I found out I had cancerous cells in one breast and at my lumpectomy No cells were found. IF I believed in the bad luck black Cat myth at all (which I don't), I would have to say she is pretty Good luck for me. As is I simply thank God for all our blessings including our little black cat.
