At first, I thought this was going to be a tough one. Then, I remembered I had just bought this little mirror toy for my daughter from Goodwill last week. Perfect photo prop! Here's Callie making sure all of her furs are nice, neat, and in order. Looking good Callie!
Speaking of Callie, she's been doing great! Each day, she opens up a little more. Her favorite spot is still behind the couch, but she comes out on a regular basis. When she's had enough of the little human or when she feels like it, she will go back to her spot behind the couch. She's super sweet and affectionate though. Rubbing up against everything and always begging for attention.
So far, it seems like Callie really enjoys window watching. She likes to sit on the back or the arms of the couch and look outside sometimes.
Shiner finally discovered there was a cat behind the couch, although it took a couple of days. Callie just sat there and looked at Shiner. I made sure to hold Shiner, but she couldn't help herself and tried to jump towards Callie. Callie didn't really run away, but did hiss and swat Shiner which only got the dog even more worked up.
So for now, Callie knows to stay behind the couch if Shiner is in the living room. We will keep working on Shiner's manners, but I know already it's not going to be easy.
I also decided to introduce Jack and Gus to Callie. Both of the boys had almost the same reaction when they realized there was a cat in front of them. I held Jack while allowing Callie to sniff from a distance. After about three seconds, Jack panicked and jumped. He tried to hide for his life, even though Callie hadn't done anything.
I think it's kind of funny and interesting how they must have this 6th sense knowing that cats are predators. It's OK with me if the cat and the rats can't be friends. They don't live in the same room and don't really need to come in contact with each other ever.
Also this week, Shiner not only discovered the cat behind the couch but that she's actually not a human. This was her reaction...
We also received our February PetBox in the mail this week. Lots of good things in this box and we will share our review plus a giveaway soon. Keep your eyes open for that!
How has your week been?

That mirror photo is very sweet!
ReplyDeleteSo glad Callie is settling in. It is good she found her safe spot. I think all pets need that.
ReplyDeleteCallie looks adorable! She seems to be really settling down and it won't be long before she has the measure of everyone!!
ReplyDeleteI love Callie! So sweet.
ReplyDeleteI need a mirror photo like your...cool!
ReplyDeleteThat is so sweet. Have a marvellous Monday.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes Molly
That is a perfect mirror shot- and good Goodwill find.
ReplyDeleteGlad Callie is feeling more at home. Forgot about the danger to the rats with a cat, though. Growing up, Mom had a cat who hunted outdoors all the time, killed birds, wabbits, mice anything really. It was funny because in the house she never touched or tried to kill Mom's gerbils or wabbits. She somehow knew they were family.
ReplyDeleteYea, I know cats can definitely be friends with other small pets. I wasn't expecting too much from these two rats though. They still do not really care for Shiner, even though Shiner and Nibblet were great friends before.
DeleteHer with the mirror is super cute :) Its good Callie is chill with the animals of the house.
ReplyDeleteCallie sure is beautiful. Glad she is coming around and has even been introduced to her new fursibs! :)
ReplyDeleteWell, introductions and first impressions have been made, I see. Hopefully, everyone will learn to get along or get away from each other.

We'll work on it, but it seems like it's coming along.

ReplyDeleteVery cute mirror shot ! We're glad to hear that Callie is doing well and step by step settling down ! Purrs
ReplyDeleteWe're glad to hear Callie is feeling more comfortable in her new home.
ReplyDeleteYou have quite the variety of pets in your household now! We're glad Callie is adjusting well. We usually found that after a few good shots to the nose, dogs would learn that cats aren't to be messed with. Though Luke still harasses Samantha at times, so they don't always learn! She also knows what places she can go to and get away from him. Hopefully Callie and Shiner will become friends one day, or at least learn to live together peaceably. :)
ReplyDeleteWell, Shiner has a pretty hard head. She lived with a cat, Kitty Kitty Meow Meow, for over half of her life but still never learned her lesson there.
DeleteI was so looking for an update on Callie, and my new BFF's Jack & Gus. I would imagine it might take a minute or two for them to get comfy - I've got faith in you Ann. Keep us posted.
ReplyDeleteCallie is just so pretty. She's very brave to stay in the same room with Shiner! I'll bet they get used to each other soon. Not sure about the rats though. Btw I pinned the pic of Shiner - so funny!
