Ready for the New Year

This year seemed relatively busy for me and I'll admit that I've struggled to keep up with the blog and our blog friends. My older daughter has picked up quite a few extracurricular activities that also keep me extra busy. 2017 seemed to be going OK until the very end... I've been more absent than usual because my father, who I live with, became very ill at the beginning of December.

He said he had the flu, but I felt like something was very wrong and took him to the hospital after a day or two. In the end, he was diagnosed with severe pneumonia, infection and an abscess in his lung, and sepsis. He was essentially sitting on death's door and I'm surprised that he only had to spend two and a half weeks in the hospital.

He's at home now and improving well. Recovery is slow going in terms of his movement and getting around. Either way, I'm glad he's still here and got to be home for Christmas.

On top of that, I'm now sick for the third time in the past six weeks. I keep picking up the colds and coughs that my youngest daughter brings home from school.

With that fiasco mostly behind me, I am definitely ready to say goodbye to 2017 and hello to 2018. As usual, I like to look back at the year and check out some of the favorite photos and blog posts of our readers.

Here are your favorite Instagram photos from 2018! I'm glad to see all three of my pets represented in the collage.

  6. You've definitely been missed! Sorry to hear your dad's been so ill but glad he is home recovering. He's lucky as my mom wasn't able to fight off the same illnesses. I look forward to seeing more of you in 2018! My blog is slacking too and I hope to pick it up next month but I don't have any good excuses. Sandra and Dolly

  8. Praying things ease up for your father and I am so sorry that he was so ill!! Hoping you improve as well! I understand EXACTLY where you are coming from, we are going to be AWOL quite a bit. My oldest stepdaughter has been in the hospital/rehab since the 19th...she also had sepsis (she is in rehab for the meds/tubes etc), she has spina bifida and they have to do two surgeries in early 2018.....it's been crazy here, then this past week I was sick with an awful cold. It sucks when "life happens" sometimes...but I totally get it. Sending healing energy your way catchatwithcarenandcody

  12. I think the older your kids get, the busier they can keep you! Sorry to read that your Dad was so ill, but relieved that he is better, and hope his recovery continues. Also hope your sicknesses get behind you, and 2018 brings much better things!
