Does My Aging Dog Need a Joint Supplement? #NaturalStride

A lot of people are surprised to hear that Shiner is almost 11 years old. It's even hard for me to believe sometimes. I didn't really notice that Shiner might be in the "aging pets" category until this year. She started with an occasional limp in her front left carpus aka wrist. Nothing too serious, but I guess the joint pain there was bad enough to cause a little limping every now and then. Joint pain is something many older dogs experience.

Joint Supplements for Aging Pets
Is it time for my dinner yet?

We were recently asked to try out a joint supplement for dogs called Natural Stride made by a company called Natural Solutions for Life. The company makes products for not only dogs, but people and horses too. They strive to provide their customers with high quality products that are manufactured in their FDA registered facilities in the USA.

Do Aging Pets Need Joint Supplements?

I think that joint supplements for dogs are a good thing. Natural Stride is an all natural joint supplement that actually repairs joints rather than mask joint pain like medication does. The makers of Natural Stride claim that with their product, you will start to see results with your dog within days and not months. So is it true?

Since I've had Shiner on Natural Stride, she has not limped. Not even once! It's been about a month and a half since she's been taking it. I noticed results for Shiner in about a week's time. And her Natural Stride continues to work for her today.

Natural Stride's active ingredients include Cetyl Myristoleate, Glucosamine HCL, N-Acetyl Glucosamine, MSM, Vitamin C (ascorbic acid), Hyaluronic Acid (HA), Lecithin, Vitamin E (tocopheryl acetate), dL-Methionine, Citrus Bioflavonoids, Omega 3, and Yucca.

Do Dogs Like Natural Stride?

I know that giving joint supplements to dogs can be a battle for some people. I've had so many dog owners complain to me that their dog just will not take their supplements. I am thankfully blessed with a dog who is happy to consume just about anything that's edible. But Natural Stride honestly seems extra special to Shiner.

Does my aging dog need a joint supplement?

The supplement comes in a powder form that must taste delicious to dogs. I put the powder over Shiner's food and she sits there and waits impatiently for me to hurry up and feed her. The only other time she acts like this is when I give her cooked chicken. I'm pleased that I get to give her something that's good for her AND that she loves to eat. I think eating her food with Natural Stride mixed in is her favorite "treat" right now.

If your dog is picky, this stuff can be easily mixed with yummy canned food. You can also add a little water to moisten the powder on dry food. Both of which I personally tried and it worked great.

What I Like About Natural Stride

There are a lot of things I like about this joint supplement.
  • It tastes good, or so the dog thinks anyways.
  • It's easy to administer. You've got a few options as to how you give it too.
  • The company is dedicated to making high quality products for their customers.
  • It's affordable.
  • There's a 60-day money back guarantee, so there's no risk to give it a try.
  • Natural Stride is all natural.
  • I have seen results fast with this joint supplement.
I usually try to add cons to product reviews that I write, but I really had to rake my brain to think of any for Natural Stride. All I can think of is that if I had a choice, I'd rather give a chewable supplement to my dog rather than a powder form. But then I learned that Natural Solutions for Life will be carrying one of these soon. Since this campaign is ongoing, I will be talking about the chews later and can't wait to try them!

  3. Yes, I am glad it worked well for Shiner. We had two dogs once and needed something like that when they got older.

  4. Joint supplements definitely are a great idea for any pet with lameness issues. Just like in people, pets respond differently to different supplements. What might work for my dog might not work for your dog. That being said, recommendation from someone that is using a product that is working is the best way to decide which product to try. There are so many out there.

  6. Did not realized the Shiner is 11. I don't take any joint supplement at the moment. I used to but it irritated my stomach. So just Salmon Oil (which I've been taking since I was young). Glad to hear Shiner likes and adjusting to it. Lots of Golden Woofs, Sugar

  9. I love reading joint supplement reviews because I'm always curious if there is something out there better than what I'm using. I've tried quite a few and keep going back to the Dasuquin soft chews. Easy to administer cause he thinks he's getting a treat. Intrigued by this powder form though. Did it have a strong odor?

    1. Hmm, it does have a smell to it... I unfortunately snorted some into my nose when I opened it one day... The smell is kind of a dog treat or snack smell. Something a dog would like. I'd say the odor is mild to moderate.

    2. Thanks Ann. I might contemplate trying it. I took Titan off the Wag and went back to Dasuquin recently.

  10. It's great that you found something that works well for Shiner! I recognize myself in the beginning of your story. "Bonnie isn't all that old." I took a while for me to realize and accept that she needed a supplement. I give her the Deidre's K9 joint chews, because I work there. They were the closest remedy available and she's a much happier dog eating them.

  11. We agree! Joint supplements can really help older pets with joint pain. As our Sammy got older and older, his arthritis really started slowing him down, and we began giving him joint supplements. They really did make a huge difference in his comfort and mobility. Glad they help cute Shiner, too!

  12. Poor baby. It's so sad to see them get older and start having problems. My sisfur's cat is 16 and was placed on the human supplement for joints (Glucosomine - spelling is off), but it has helped him for 2 years. Yes, it does work - a short term fix tho, but take that fix while you can get it.

  17. I know what you mean about not noticing your dog may be in it's golden years. Chester is 11 and I still have a hard time remembering he is old. Other than having a tad of grey, a couple fatty lumps, and being stiff when he gets up occasionally, he acts like he did 5 years ago. I do give him something for his joints most days. What I give him is not consistent though. Sometimes it is a joint-supplement treat, sometimes it is a liquid supplement, and sometimes it's beef trachea - a natural source of cartilage building nutrients.

    1. I wouldn't have guessed he was 11 either... I totally forget that Shiner is that old all the time. Earlier, she was running through the house like a crazy dog with the baby. What you do with him sounds similar to what I've done with Shiner in the past. I'm bad at remembering to give meds or vitamins, so I do it when I am thinking about it. I didn't know that about beef trachea - thanks for sharing.

  19. We've read lots of good reviews of this lately, but we are happy with the supplement we are using. We also don't like powder form as it is a hassle to always be mixing it or adding water, but if it works for a dog, then that is all that matters.

    1. My preference is chewable forms, because it is just a little bit easier for me. But Shiner loves this powder stuff!

  22. I can't believe Shiner is 11 years old either. She looks great! Maya is only six, but I've heard Labs tend to develop arthritis at a young age. Right now, she is eating the Hip Action treats from Zukes. Perhaps I should look into Natural Stride as well.

  24. My 11 year old Bernese Mtn Dog is doing great with her arthritic rear knees after using the powder. I have the chews right now, but they are very hard - not really chews at all. Even after putting them in the microwave like the package instructions note, they are not as edible as the powder. Because I have a large breed dog, I always soak her food to prevent the risk of bloat and mixing the powder with her food is much easier than trying to soften the chews in the microwave. I noticed a change in her activity level approx. 2 weeks after starting the powder.
