My 2 year old is a little young to learn the importance of scooping dog poop, but my 9 year old, Lily, is at the perfect age to learn this. As I mentioned before, we have a very large yard and field and I don't always see when Shiner goes poop.
Yesterday on Easter, Lily and I went on a Easter dog poop hunt for stray piles of dog poop during our dog walk around the yard. I personally didn't think it was all that exciting, but Lily on the other hand was getting quite into it.
She asked if she could pick up one of the poop piles, so I obliged. She may as well learn sometime.

On another note, we finally got a Fifth Paw to try out in our April PetBox. You can see our review and enter to win a PetBox here. Our friend Sugar is always talking about her Fifth Paw and how pawsome it is, so we were SO happy to see this product in PetBox this month.
What is the Fifth Paw? It's a little contraption that secures to a leash and holds dog poop bags for you while you walk your dog. No more carrying around dog poop bags in your hands! We love the Fifth Paw too and think it's a wonderful product.
Want to win some Earth Rated and Fifth Paw prizes? We have a special #ScoopThatPoop giveaway today! One winner will get Earth Rated dog poop bags and another winner will receive a Fifth Paw prize. The giveaway ends April 30th and is open to both US and Canadian residents.
Also, bloggers who join us, Golden Woofs, and Oz the Terrier for our #ScoopThatPoop Blog Hop have a chance to win either some dog poop bags from Earth Rated or a Fifth Paw prize. Just link up your blog post below. The #ScoopThatPoop Blog Hop is open until Friday April 25th. Good luck everyone!

Huxley's ten-year-old friend and handler, Rose, truly likes to clean up his poop... and it doesn't often all fit in her tiny, bag covered hand! But it is good for her to learn and she is proud of being a good dog friend.
ReplyDeleteAw that's so cute! In a weird way lol... I was surprised that she asked me if she could scoop it up.
DeleteGreat awareness post with great pictures. Glad to see your daughter isn't grossed out about helping keep the yard clean. Have the fifth paw and love it.
ReplyDeletePoopscooping was a job for kids back in the day. My husband even was teased with a nickname - Professor Poopscoop.
ReplyDeletePretty sure that's why the job falls to me now!
Scooping is the best thing to do, always!
ReplyDeleteOh Miss Ann, you are the best dog and human mom ever! It is so great to see a mom teach her children to be responsible and clean up after their dog. If only I had neighbors like you. I never see the kids walking their dogs with poop bags in hand (or anywhere else on their person). Bravo!
ReplyDeleteOz
I was really surprised when she asked if she could pick it up. She acts all silly and grossed out when the human baby poops in her diaper... so I figured she wouldn't want to scoop dog poop either!
DeleteSo very sorry to hear about Nibblet. The fifth paw sounds great
ReplyDeleteHi guys! We're joining in today to spread the word! Haha! Spread! Great contest we want to win! Love Dolly
ReplyDeleteWoohoo! I'll be around to check out everyone's posts later on.
DeleteI have joined the giveaway and I would like these since walk my dogs daily.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Dolly, its good to spread the word ( and not the poop). Since mom ruined her best shoes forever she is always on poop-patrol. That's really sh*t to ignore the "legacy" of dogs.
ReplyDeleteI am a cat and need not concern myself with such things...
ReplyDeleteBut I'm glad you are on top of the situation with info about new stuff...
Noodle
I would love to join the giveaway!!!
ReplyDeleteGreat info as well! And there is nothing I hate more then walking my dogs and stepping in someones dog poop. Not to mention the parasites that come with it!!!

ReplyDeleteI am so excited to join this giveaway! I would love to try this product out, as a professional dog walker and pet sitter, the worst part of the job is carrying around bags of poop! I would love one of these little contraptions for our leashes. Who knew there was such a thing!
ReplyDeleteIt can carry more than one bag too Liz!
DeleteOMC, Easter poop hunt! Our kids would have loved it too!
ReplyDeleteHm, wasn't really aware of this Fifth Paw thingy. Need to get myself one ^^

ReplyDeleteOur mom is alwasy scooping poop, but it's in the litter box! She hates when dog owners don't clean up after their dogs, it even attracts rats. Ugh!
ReplyDeleteWe would love to join the giveaway! We have three dogs that love to play fetch in the yard, so we really need to keep it free of poop since we spend so much time out there!

ReplyDeleteWe want to join too. Now that the snow has melted as soon as it dries up a little, we have to have a huge hunt in our yard!
ReplyDeleteSeems sort of weird for me to say but poop scooping has become such a way of life for us here in Doodleville, that I don't think about it much anymore. See, isn't that weird?
ReplyDeleteI'm sure it feels weird, but that's great! More people should take after you!
DeleteWhat a great example you are setting for your children. They truly learn what they live. : )
ReplyDeleteI want to enter! Recently found Earth Rated bags and love them. I've always been good about picking up after my dogs, but with a new puppy in the house that isn't done with all his vaccinations yet, it's especially important!
ReplyDeleteI want to enter the giveaway :) To avoid the dogs or us from stepping in it, spreading it around and then having to clean that mess up ...yuck ....we always clean up after our 6 dogs right away.
ReplyDeleteWhere we live, the neighbors are NOT so good with scooping their poop but we are adamant about cleaning up after Huffle properly and setting a good example. We'd love this, it'd make some of our longer walks much easier.
ReplyDeleteI want to enter the giveaway too. I need to scoop the poop because my dog and I like to go out together. We want to be responsible citizens.
ReplyDeleteI didn't enter the contest (I don't have a dog) but I think it is great that you are teaching your daughters about being a responsible pet owner. You can never start too early with that.
ReplyDeleteI want to enter the contest please. It's important to scoop my dog's poop because I don't want other people to step in it.
ReplyDeleteI want to enter the giveaway too. I need to scoop the poop because I want to protect our well water supply.
ReplyDeleteWe agree with Playful Kitty - responsible pet ownership is very important to understand!
ReplyDeleteI want to enter the giveaway too. I need to scoop the poop because I have large dogs and their poop would be bad for the environment.
ReplyDeleteI want to enter the giveaway too. I need to scoop the poop because I want to keep our environment beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI want to enter the giveaway too. I need to scoop the poop because my dog and I like to hiking and the only thing we want to leave behind a cleaner trail. We take out trash that we find and then we dispose of it properly.
